Illinois Appellate Court
Criminal Court
Sentencing
Defendant was convicted, after bench trial, of 2 counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault; he was sentenced to total 12 years in prison and a term of 3 years to life of mandatory supervised release (MSR). Court did not err in imposing the term of MSR under an amended version of the MSR statute rather than a previous version that provided for only three years of MSR. Evidence established that offenses occurred not on a single day, but on at least 10 occasions over an extended period of time, the vast majority of such occasions were after effective date of amended relevant statute. (LAVIN and PUCINSKI, concurring.)
