Last Day to Vote in ISBA Election is April 30

Voting is now underway in the 2024 ISBA Election. ISBA's election provider Election-America distributed ballots on March 27. All members of the Association (except non-lawyer members) with dues paid by March 1, 2024 are eligible to vote. 

The deadline for voting is Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. Central Time for all voting methods: e-ballot or paper.

A judge has affirmed officers’ right to have an arbitrator decide their fate in serious cases, but has also said those hearings should be open because of the public interest in misconduct by police.

A rise in appeals cases following implementation of the Pretrial Fairness Act last year has led the Illinois Supreme Court to adopt new rules that govern such appeals.

A measure advancing in Illinois seeks to ban corporal punishment in all private schools. Opponents are concerned the measure could be misinterpreted and school coaches asking for more pushups could be in violation of the proposed law.

In addition to banning step therapy, the measure would also require insurance companies to adopt definitions regarding medical necessity that are the same as the guidelines doctors use. It would also ban prior authorization for in-patient adult and child mental health services.
