ISBA Offices Closing for Holidays

The ISBA Springfield and Chicago offices will be closed for the holidays beginning Wednesday, Dec. 24. They will reopen on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026. During this time, members can expect the following:

  • E-Clips will not be delivered for the duration of this period
  • Illinois Lawyer Now will not be delivered on Thursday, Dec. 25
  • The Bar News will not be delivered on Thursday, Jan. 1

All business and e-newsletter distribution will resume as usual on Jan. 5, 2026.

The Illinois Supreme Court says criminal defendants who are sentenced to jail as punishment for violating the terms of their pretrial release on electronic monitoring aren’t entitled to good behavior credit typically used to reduce the duration of a prison sentence, which could allow them to avoid the punishment altogether.

A new law is expanding property tax relief for senior homeowners. The tax deferral program increases income eligibility for the 2025 tax year and beyond. The deadline to apply for the 2025 Senior tax deferral program is March 1, 2026.

Beginning Jan. 1, Illinois employers will be required to provide paid breaks for nursing mothers who earn hourly wages. The “Nursing Mothers in the Workplace Act” already protects nursing mothers on a salary, but now it will also cover nursing mothers paid by the hour.
