A federal lawsuit filed this week accuses Travelers Property Casualty Company of America of not settling a wrongful death case earlier, a decision now being challenged after a $241 million jury verdict in southern Illinois.

A fifth person has been arrested for an armed robbery in Peoria’s East Bluff that one of the suspects reportedly recorded on a cell phone, leading to their arrests. Prosecutors said the video posted on Snapchat helped identify several suspects, including Kenmetris T. Cockfield, 18, of Peoria.

Calvin Woods, 34, of Matteson pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder in the 2023 fatal shooting of Travon Mackie, 30, of Chicago. Woods was sentenced to 20 years in prison by Cook County Judge Angela Petrone, according to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

A 34-year-old Bethalto woman has received a 40-year prison sentence for committing a sexual act against a child and permitting her boyfriend to sexually abuse the child, the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office said.
