Lawyer Well-Being: Developing Emotional Intelligence

Lawyers are particularly vulnerable to stress and anxiety due to the competitive and demanding nature of the practice. In this session our speaker will show how developing your emotional intelligence will help you cope with some of these anxieties and stresses. The speaker will explain the five domains of emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-regulation, self-motivation, empathy, and social skills (or DiSC). This interactive seminar uses group discussion to explore each of these areas to help you better understand: knowing when emotions are guiding you, the difference between self-regulation and suppressing emotions, jumping to negative conclusions, how to listen empathically, and much more. Celebrate our profession with music, fun, and food during our Annual Installation of Officers event! The evening begins with a brief ceremony where we will recognize James F. McCluskey on his successful year as ISBA President, and welcome David B. Sosin as ISBA's 2019-2020 President. The festivities that follow include a cocktail reception, formal dinner, dessert and coffee bar, dancing and entertainment. Black tie requested.
