Wayne L. Bickes 1932-2019

Wayne L. Bickes, 87, of Decatur, died Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.

Wayne was born June 18, 1932, in Decatur, the son of Brownie B. and Irma (Shutter) Bickes. He married Sandy Brumley on December 2, 1966, in Decatur.

Wayne graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Illinois School of Law. After graduation from law school, he joined the firm of Rosenberg and Rosenberg, and became a partner in the firm. Wayne was a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, and the Decatur Bar Association. In 2018 he retired from Bickes, Wilson, & Moss, after serving as an attorney for over 50 years. Wayne had a love of the law and playing golf. He was a very talented pianist and an avid Bears fan. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy, of 52 years; children, Kurt B. (Wendy) Bickes of Decatur, Barry B. Bickes of Satillo, Mississippi, Timothy L. Bickes of Decatur; grandchildren, Christopher R. (Danielle) Meurlot of Forsyth, Casey W. Bickes (fiancée Jessi Moyle) of Tennessee, Cory A. (Hannah) Bickes of Forsyth, Shelby J. Bickes (fiancé Thomas Toole) of Satillo, Mississippi, Kellie M. Bickes of Satillo, Mississippi; great-grandchildren Lilliana and Cullen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, and one brother.
