Legislation

The Section Council reviewed 118 bills that may affect their members’ practice area. Highlights of the most recent legislative session include:

  • House Bill 5228 is a workers’ compensation omnibus bill.
  • Senate Bill 2870 is an initiative of the ISBA that amends the Administrative Review Law of the Code of Civil Procedure (the “ARL”) to address concerns about delays by the United States Postal Service in mailing final administrative decisions, which reduce the time available for complainants to file appeals. To address this issue, SB 2870 resolves an inconsistency in the decision-service provisions of the Illinois Administrative Procedure Act (the “IAPA”) and the ARL. While the IAPA permits service by email, registered or certified mail, or personal service, the ARL permits only US mail (not by registered or certified means) and personal service. For consistency, the bill incorporates the IAPA’s service provisions into the ARL by reference. Effective immediately.
  • Senate Bill 3601 creates the Professional AI Oversight Act.
