South Suburban Bar Association accepting scholarship applications

The South Suburban Bar Association has a scholarship available to law students meeting the criteria set by the Association in the amount of $1,500.00. The following criteria will be used in the selection process: 1.    The recipient of the Scholarship Award shall be a deserving student of an accredited local law school; 2.    The student must be a resident of the South Suburbs of Cook County and must have a present interest to practice law in the South Suburbs upon graduation; 3.    Financial need will be considered by the Scholarship Committee.  The applicant can be expected to document his or her financial need when requested to do so by the Committee; 4.    Each student interested in being considered for the Scholarship Award must submit a brief resume for review by the South Suburban Bar Association Committee.  They must also include a cover letter (200 word maximum) indicating why they want to practice on the 'South-side'.  The Committee may conduct interviews of applicants or alternatively, may in its discretion, recommend a candidate to the Board of South Suburban Bar Association based upon a review of the resumes submitted. The resume and cover letter of the applicant must be received by the undersigned no later than November 6, 2009.  Interviews will be tentatively held on November 14, 2009.  Candidates will be contacted after November 6, 2009 to schedule interviews. In order to receive the Scholarship Award, the student must attend the South Suburban Bar Association's Installation Dinner Dance to be held on December 4, 2009.  The student selected to receive the Scholarship Award, along with as one person in his/her company, will be the Association's guest at the dinner. Scholastic achievement in law school will be considered by the Scholarship Committee, but scholastic achievement alone will not be the sole determinative factor considered by the Committee, as it is the belief of the Board of Directors of the South Suburban Bar Association that most law school students, after having been admitted to law school, and after having maintained his or her status as a member in good standing of his or her law school class, has evidenced a reasonable degree of scholastic achievement. Any interested student may forward their resume and 200 word cover letter to:  South Suburban Bar Association Scholarship Committee, attn: Daniel D. Hinich, 17926 S. Halsted St., Suite 3S. Homewood, IL 60430.   Applications will not be accepted by e-mail or fax.  I discourage personal contacts concerning the scholarship from students, unless the contact solely relates to the requirements set forth in this correspondence.  I look forward to receiving applications from the members of your student body.
