CLE: What Comes Next? Emerging Issues for LGBT Clients

Some federal protections are changing….are you ready to advise your LGBT clients? LGBT issues cross many legal practice areas, including family law, anti-discrimination, real estate, and estate planning – to name a few. Don’t miss this full-day seminar in Chicago or via live webcast on June 7, 2018 that explores the emerging issues in each of these areas and how you can best advise your LGBT client. Attorneys with all levels of practice experience who might represent an LGBT client and who attend this seminar will better understand: the ongoing issues with same-sex civil unions; how pre-nuptial agreements are used in civil unions to divide property; custody considerations when adults end marriage or partnerships; the importance of knowing the correct terminology when representing LGBT clients; how to protect your client’s civil union during the estate planning process; the loan and ownership considerations to be aware of regarding real estate transactions; how the Colorado bakery case may change the future of federal law and the protections offers by the Religious Freedom Restoration Act; the education issues that can arise for LGBT students; and much more.

The program is presented by the ISBA Standing Committee on Women & the Law, and co-sponsored by the ISBA Administrative Law Section and the ISBA Standing Committee on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. It qualifies for 6.25 hours MCLE credit.
