The ISBA Is Accepting Submissions for the Annual Lincoln Award Legal Writing Contest

The Illinois State Bar Association invites Young Lawyers Division (YLD) members to establish yourselves as experts in your practice area and compete for $3,500 in prize money by entering the Annual Lincoln Award Legal Writing Contest.

Submissions should be useful, practical articles on topics important to practicing lawyers. Submissions will be considered for publication in the Illinois Bar Journal.

If you're an ISBA lawyer member under age 37 as of July 1, 2020, or admitted to the bar fewer than seven years as of that date, you're eligible to compete. Even if your submission is not a winning entry, it may be eligible to appear in the Illinois Bar Journal.

Important dates:

  • The deadline for filing a notice to enter the contest is July 15, 2020 (use our online form at isba.org/ibj/lincolnwritingaward/form).
  • Email a brief outline of your manuscript to Jean Fenski by Aug. 14, 2020.
  • The final deadline for manuscripts is noon Oct. 1, 2020.

Manuscripts should be emailed to Jean Fenski.

The contest is sponsored by and for lawyer members of the Young Lawyers Division. A distinguished panel of judges will evaluate the entries. For contest rules, visit isba.org/ibj/lincolnwritingaward.

For more information, contact Jean Fenski by email or phone at jfenski@isba.org, (217) 525-1760, or 800-252-8908.
