Illinois Supreme Court Appoints Lefevour Smith as At-Large Circuit Judge of Cook County

Chief Justice Anne M. Burke and the Illinois Supreme Court have announced the appointment of Judge Cara LeFevour Smith as an At-Large Cook County Circuit Judge. 

Judge LeFevour Smith was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Kathleen M. McGury on June 1, 2020. The appointment is effective July 1, and will conclude December 4, 2022, following the November 2022 general election. 

Judge LeFevour Smith currently serves as a Circuit Judge of the Cook County in the 7th Judicial Subcircuit, sitting in the Juvenile Justice Division. Prior to this, she was the Chief Policy Officer for the Office of the Cook County Sheriff since 2015. In her extensive career of nearly 30 years, Judge LeFevour Smith has also served in leadership positions for the Office of the Illinois Attorney General and the Illinois Department of Corrections. 

Judge LeFevour Smith earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois at Chicago and received her Juris Doctor from the Loyola University of Chicago School of Law.
