David G. Wentz 1963-2021

David G. "Dave" Wentz, age 57, local attorney, civic leader and longtime resident of Naperville, IL, formerly of Glen Ellyn, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 4, 2021 at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born February 4, 1963 in Elmhurst, IL.

Beloved husband of Tonya J. Wentz (nee Miller), whom he married March 23, 1991, loving father of Haley (Clay Gale) Wentz of Nashville, TN, Luke Wentz of Chicago and Zach Wentz of Naperville, devoted son of the late Chet and Carolyn (nee Eicher) Wentz, dear brother of Karen (Rod) Haggerty of Peoria, IL, Dan (Stacy) Wentz of Alpena, MI and Rob (Anna) Wentz of San Rafael, CA, son-in-law of the late Gene and Mabel Miller, brother-in-law of Carla (Jim Gillespie) Klopfenstein, Christa (Dick Scheanwald) Dorsey, Paula (the late Bob) Barrick, Andrea (the late Larry) Koch and Carl (the late Sue) Miller, fond nephew, cousin, uncle, great-uncle, and friend of many.

Dave grew up in Glen Ellyn and was a 1981 graduate of Glenbard West High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL and completed his law degree at the University of Illinois College of Law in 1989.

Dave was a partner with Brooks, Adams & Tarulis, and of-counsel with Brooks, Tarulis & Tibble in Naperville for 25 years, specializing in business law, civil litigation, real estate and personal injury. He was well known and respected in the Naperville and DuPage County legal community and was a member of several bar associations.

Dave served as a Naperville Township trustee from 2009 to 2013 and on the Naperville City Council from 2013 to 2015.

He was appointed to the Naper Settlement Museum Board in 2019.

Dave's civic involvement also included stints as Chairman of the Naperville Healing Field of Honor and past President of the Exchange Club of Naperville. He also was active with Ribfest, the Naperville Rotary Club, the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce and Naperville Citizens Appreciate Public Safety (CAPS). Dave was a precinct committeeman with the Naperville Township Republican Organization and worked on numerous state and local political campaigns for election.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 13, 2021, 2:00-8:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL. Current health guidelines state that no more than 10 individuals at a time may pay their respects to the family, and guests are required to wear masks and follow social distancing procedures.

A private funeral service with live-streaming will be held Thursday, January 14, 11:00 AM at Bethany Lutheran Church, 1550 Modaff Rd., Naperville, IL.

A private interment will follow at Naperville Cemetery.
