Donald C. Martin 1925 - 2022

Donald Chase Martin, 97, peacefully passed away March 29, 2022, in Kansas City, Missouri, with his daughters by his side. He was raised in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, by his parents, the late Charles H. (Bub) and Fae C. Martin.

He received his Bachelor of Science in English from the University of Missouri in 1948. He attended the University of Iowa and earned his Juris Doctorate in 1952. He served in the United States Navy.

Donald moved to Princeton, IL, where he began his legal career with the firm Trimble and Trimble. There, in Princeton, he met Sarah Jolley and they married in 1958. After serving his terms as Bureau County State's Attorney, he partnered with Watts Johnson and Fred Russell to form the law firm of Johnson, Martin, and Russell where he practiced until his retirement in December 1994.

Throughout his years in Princeton, he was on several boards and committees. Donald proudly served on the Princeton Elementary School Board and was a Deacon of Hampshirite Colony Congregational Church. He was an avid golfer and tennis player. After his retirement, Sarah and he enjoyed summers on Tomahawk Lake and winters in Sarasota Florida.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah, of 52 years and his sisters, Shirley M. Grant and Ann M. Morine. He is survived by his children Ann K. Martin and Sally E. Martin; grandchildren Katherine E. Cola (Lorenzo), Sarah D. Schurman (John), Clifford J. Dycus, Annie P. Dycus; and six great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Princeton, IL at a later date.
