Richard D. Stephens 1927 - 2022

Richard D. Stephens, 94, of Macomb, Illinois, passed away at 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at Bickford Cottage in Macomb, Illinois.

Dick was well known for his generous nature, his always positive attitude, and his love of family and friends. He was born September 5, 1927, in Rushville, IL, to William Carter and Madelyn (Settles) Stephens; he first married Marilyn (Barnes) Stephens on November 18, 1951. She preceded him in death on Feb. 15, 2003; he then married Jacki Foxall on April 14, 2007. She preceded him in death on October 21, 2017.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Don and Harold Stephens. He is survived by his daughters Debbie (Neal) Nordstrom of Poway, CA, Shelly (Steve) Dykes of Barrington, IL; step children Scott Foxall and Vicky Cannon both of Leesburg, FL; grandchildren Julia (Ajitesh) Srivastava, Anna Nordstrom, Connor Dykes, and Ryan Dykes, and a brother Gordon Stephens.

He was a graduate of Rushville High School where he placed third in a state track meet. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and the Navy during the Korean War. He graduated from Western Illinois University and Northwestern School of Law.

Upon graduating law school, he and Marilyn took up residence in Macomb. He practiced law in Macomb for over 50 years. He was a partner at McRaven and Stephens and later at Flack, McRaven and Stephens. In addition he served as Macomb's City Attorney. He was active in many community activities including the Presbyterian Church, Kiwanis, and the Macomb School Board.

He enjoyed being with family and friends, playing golf, playing pitch, and sweets of all kinds. A treasured memory includes a golfing trip to Scotland with his three brothers and his cousin, Bob Boyd (deceased).

He and Jacki shared many fond years in Leesburg, FL. When she died he returned to Macomb. He was welcomed by the Macomb community. He especially enjoyed many dinners at the Macomb Country Club with good friends. He will be greatly missed.

Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home. Private burial of ashes will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
