Richard “Dick” Rinella 1939 - 2022

Richard “Dick” Rinella, devoted husband and loving father, died July 21, 2022, in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois.

He was born in Chicago (1939) to Samuel and Kathryn Rinella nee Barasa.

Dick was in the first graduating class at Glenbrook High School (1957) and thrived in sports with a four year, record-breaking winning streak as the quarterback of the football team. Dick graduated from Harvard University (1961) where he played football and baseball. He received his law degree from the University of Michigan (1964).

Following law school, Dick moved home to Chicago and worked as a State's Attorney before moving to work alongside his family at the Rinella & Rinella law firm. After the family law firm, he then went on to work in the financial industry. He married his loving wife Barbara Albers Rinella on March 22, 1969, and they had two children, Richard “Rich” Anthony Rinella, Jr. (1973) and Anne “Annie” Albers Rinella (1976).

Dick and Barbara raised their family in Kenilworth, IL, and during their lifetime together (53 married years), enjoyed spending time at their home in Boynton Beach, Florida (Quail Ridge Country Club) and loved to travel the world. Dick cherished his time on the golf course (an accomplished player who had a single-digit handicap for many years), watching his children thrive (sports, academics, careers, and family), and spending time with his grandchildren and beloved poodles.

Dick is survived by his wife Barbara, son Rich (Ayla), daughter Annie (Chris) Taube, and four grandchildren; Alex and Brady Taube and Noah and Luca Rinella. He is also survived by his brother Bernie (Gloria) Rinella and his sister-in-law Dorothy Douse and her three daughters, Heather (Mark) Holland, Stephanie (Terry) Hyman, Melissa (Cameron) Cole, and their nine children. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law George Douse, niece Kathryn Rinella, and nephew Bernie Rinella.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. at Kenilworth Union Church, 211 Kenilworth Avenue, Kenilworth, IL 60043.
