Are artificial intelligence (AI) tools like the recently released ChatGPT by Open AI going to replace lawyers anytime soon?

Absolutely not, say ISBA members and AI experts who “stress tested” the new tool for the Illinois Bar Journal, and whose experiences with the tool are recounted in the March Illinois Bar Journal cover story, “Afraid to Ask?” ChatGPT and other AI tools in development can be helpful in researching caselaw and drafting briefs and other documents—if you know how to use them properly and don’t trust everything they tell you. That said, AI technology is evolving at a fast clip, with advancements seemingly announced every day.
