Howard O. Wolfe 1923-2023

Howard O. Wolfe passed away on March 11, 2023, at the age of 99.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Arch and Lee Wolfe, and his sister, Betty June Bezark. Howard had two children with his former wife, Sue Wolfe: Kerry Wolfe (Sherri) and Terry Arnol (Jeff).

He was the cherished grandfather of Brian Arnol, Alyssa Arnol (Aaron) Kaufman, Scott Arnol, Melissa (Jason) Gluskin, Molly Wolfe, and Karli (Max) Morris. He was the proud great-grandfather of Noa Kaufman, Violet Gluskin, Abby Capps, Landon Morris, and Avery Morris.

Howard married his soulmate, Ellen Wolfe, in 1988 with whom he treasured their 35 blissful years of marriage, shared his professional life, enjoyed many wonderful trips, family times, and ignited in him a rejuvenated love of Israel and Judaism.

Howard graduated from Marshall High School, attended the University of Pennsylvania, and transferred to graduate from the University of Illinois. After college, he enrolled in the V-12 Naval officer training program and was a junior officer on an LCI ship in the Navy that saw significant action in WW2, including underwater demolition at Okinawa, clearing the mines for the approaching infantrymen.

After his naval service, he entered Loyola Law School, graduating with distinction and second in his class. He started his own law practice specializing in corporate law, estate planning, and real estate. The firm grew in size and reputation and eventually included his son, Kerry, who practiced with him for 30 years. He loved the practice of law and established a reputation as a brilliant dealmaker and estate planner whose word was his bond.

He was a man of perseverance and determination. Despite having average athletic ability, he channeled his extraordinary concentration and strategic mind to become a club tennis player. He became a serious and disciplined runner, even winning a race in his age group. He took up golf late in life and became a master diagnostician who knew the game at the deepest levels.

He leaves an enormous void in our lives, but we will continue to carry him in our hearts and minds.
