Theodore N. Schnell, Jr. 1930-2023

Theodore N. Schnell, Jr., 92, of Elgin, passed away April 12, 2023, peacefully at home.

He was an Elgin native, born July 31, 1930, the son of Theodore and Margaret. Ted graduated from St. Edward High School in 1948 and went on to Loras College where he met his future wife, Pat, on a blind date.

After graduating college in 1952, he was accepted into Loyola University where he earned his law degree in 1955. After passing the bar exam he was drafted into the army where he served in Japan. He married his college sweetheart in October 1957. Ted joined a law firm but later started his own practice with partners: Geister, Schnell, Richards, and Brown. He was a dedicated lawyer, husband, and father who worked long hours to support his family and community, contributing to his church, Veterans, Cancer, and Alzheimer's organizations, and many others. He always believed in giving back to his community. He loved music and musicals and frequently sang old favorites at home. He was a member of the Rotary Club and Knights of Columbus. He always showed loving compassion especially when his children were going through tough times. He made it his mission to provide a great education for all six children through private schools and college. He valued time off by taking the family up north to Hayward, Wisconsin for two weeks every summer to enjoy quality time and the great outdoors. His integrity, love, and dedication to his family will always be remembered.

Survivors include his children, Ted (Lisa), Cathy (Dan), Bill (Jane), Mary Jo, John (Bill), Barb (David); grandchildren Brian (Marie), David, Daniel, AnnaBeth, Abigail, Zach, Jacob, Kaylee, Aiden, Zoe, Sanjay; and great-granddaughter Mae.
