John Michael Falasz Jr. 1931-2023

John Michael Falasz Jr. ("Jack"), passed from this life on July 28, 2023, at age 91, to join his beloved wife, Andrea, of 36 years, exactly four weeks to the day from her passing.

We believe Dad died of a broken heart and he was more than ready to join her.

John was born on October 24, 1931, on his father's birthday. John was an adored only child to John and Ruth Falasz who raised him in Chicago, attending St. Ignatius High School, Loyola University, and then Northwestern Law School. John practiced law until his 80's, keeping his mind sharp and attentive to all the latest news.

John was a Chicagoan through and through. Despite being a city dweller, he fell in love with skiing in his 20's and was a lifelong skier, a certified ski instructor, and volunteer with the National Ski Patrol for 45 years, mostly at Wilmot Mountain. He leaves behind a legacy of three generations of skiers. John's travels almost entirely revolved around ski trips to his latest favorite mountain.

John was a lifelong reader and learner; he almost never watched television. He was a mostly self-taught handyman, builder, carpenter, pianist, car mechanic, licensed pilot, cook, (sour cream pancakes every Sunday), and later in life, Great Lakes sailor. After a sailing trip to the Caribbean, John became a passionate sailor, keeping his beautiful sail boat, "Après Ski" in tip top shape at the Columbia Yacht Club on Lake Michigan.

John was an endlessly patient father, invariably cheerful, placed no limits on his children, a non-lecturer, and believer in laissez faire independence. We are strong, resilient, and grateful as a result.

John is survived by six children: Beth Blackwell, (Jim), Cathy Osgood (Rick), Suzanne Calderon, (John), John Falasz III, (Lynette), Jennifer Walker, Robyn Falasz, (fiancé, Ross); 12 grandchildren: Sean Blackwell, Brent Blackwell, (Emily), Maddie Osgood, Charlotte Osgood, Joseph Osgood, Damaris Falasz, Matthias Falasz, Andrew Falasz, Danielle Falasz, Asia Falasz, Jack Walker, Angus Walker; two great-grandchildren: Savi Blackwell, Wren Blackwell.

Private family gathering to honor Dad's request to spread some of his ashes on the Big Burn run at Snowmass, Colorado.
