Third District Appellate Court to Hold Oral Arguments at Grundy County Courthouse in Morris
The Illinois Supreme Court’s Commission on Access to Justice (ATJ Commission), partnering with the Second Judicial Circuit of Illinois and Land of Lincoln Legal Aid, Inc., announced today the launch of a two-year pilot program on remote court appearances in southern counties of Illinois.
The Third District Appellate Court will hold its “Riding the Circuit” traveling oral arguments at the Grundy County Courthouse in Morris on Wednesday, July 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The arguments will be held in the ceremonial courtroom on the second floor of the courthouse and will be livestreamed on the Third District Appellate Court YouTube page.
The Court will be hearing appeals in two civil cases and two criminal cases.
The Illinois Supreme Court began the Riding the Circuit program in 2008 to visit other locations in Illinois to raise awareness of the judicial branch and of the important role the court system has in interpreting state laws. This outreach into various communications has been a tremendous success with students and members of the public gaining a better understanding of state civics. The five appellate courts have joined this program to show how courts function at the intermediate level.
