The Special Needs Client

 It is inevitable that you will encounter families that are planning for a loved one with a developmental disability, states Katie Clancy in her October Illinois Bar Journal article, “The Special Needs Client.” But how well can you identify whether a client has a family member with a disability? Do you know the appropriate language to use when talking about disabilities? Will you be comfortable witnessing the emotions expressed by parents when discussing their fears about their child’s future? How will you address disability issues in the plan you propose to your client? Clancy goes on to explain the legal issues that surround disability planning and how strengthening your competency in this growing area of law will pay off in making a difference in a person’s life.
