Justice Lisa Holder White To Administer Oath to New Attorneys in Springfield

Justice Lisa Holder White of the Illinois Supreme Court will administer the attorney’s oath to 64 new lawyers across two ceremonies on Wednesday, November 5, in the Fourth Judicial District.

The group is among 1,637 individuals who will be sworn in and admitted to the practice of law in Illinois during bar admission ceremonies held in the state’s five Supreme Court judicial districts.

Justice Holder White will preside over the ceremonies and the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) will host a reception following each ceremony.

The first bar admission ceremony in the Fourth Judicial District will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Supreme Court Building in Springfield.

The keynote speaker for the first ceremony will be Eighth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Gabriel Grossboll. Also speaking at the ceremonies will be Stephanie Villinski, the Deputy Director of the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism and Gregory E. Moredock, a Board of Governors Member of the Illinois State Bar Association.

Fourth District Appellate Court Justice Raylene Grischow will make the motion to admit the class. The motion will be seconded by attorney Caelyn Deeb, whose son is one of the new attorneys to be sworn in.

The second bar admission ceremony in the Fourth Judicial District will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Supreme Court Building in Springfield.

The keynote speaker for the second ceremony will be Fourteenth Judicial Circuit Court Chief Judge Clarence M. Darrow.

Fourteenth Judicial Circuit Court Chief Judge John Lowry, whose daughter is one of the new attorneys to be sworn-in, will make the motion to admit the class. The motion will be seconded by attorney Carie Poirier, whose son is one of the new attorneys to be sworn in.

Guests of the Illinois Supreme Court for the ceremonies will include former Fourth District Appellate Justice M. Carol Pope (ret.), United States District Court Justices the Hon. Colleen Lawless, the Hon. Douglas Quivey, and the Hon. Karen McNaught (ret.), and Alexandra Rice, Chief Legal Counsel to the Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar.

All of the candidates have passed the Illinois State Bar Examination and a required ethics examination and were certified by the Supreme Court Committee on Character and Fitness.

In addition to Springfield, ceremonies will be held Wednesday in Chicago, Elgin, Joliet, Carbondale, and Champaign.

The Fourth Judicial District is composed of 41 counties: Adams, Boone, Brown, Calhoun, Carroll, Cass, Ford, Fulton, Greene, Hancock, Henderson, Henry, Jersey, Jo Daviess, Knox, Lee, Livingston, Logan, Macoupin, Marshall, Mason, McDonough, McLean, Menard, Mercer, Morgan, Ogle, Peoria, Pike, Putnam, Rock Island, Sangamon, Schuyler, Scott, Stark, Stephenson, Tazewell, Warren, Whiteside, Winnebago and Woodford.
