    Loeb & Loeb names Douglas Masters Chicago Office Head

    Loeb & Loeb LLP announced today that partner Douglas N. Masters, one of the founding partners of the firm’s Chicago office, has been named Chicago Office Head.  He will succeed partner Elizabeth Majers, who has served in this role since early 2012 and will be retiring from the practice of law at year-end. 

    Masters’ responsibilities as Chicago Office Head will include general oversight of the office, and working with firm management to grow the firm’s presence in Chicago, a key market for the firm, and expand its services and capabilities throughout the region.

    The Young Lawyers Division hosted its 16th Annual Holiday Party on Dec. 6 at the Cubby Bear in Chicago. Proceeds from the event benefit the IBF/YLD Children's Assistance Fund.

    Joint Midyear Meeting to Feature Mayor Emanuel, CLE Programs, Dinner Honoring Supreme Court

    Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel will be the keynote speaker at a noon luncheon on Friday, December 13, during the Midyear Meeting of the Illinois Judges Association and Illinois State Bar Association at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers, 301 E. North Water Street.

    The joint meeting, to be held December 12-14, will include the annual Illinois Bar Foundation Fellows Awards Breakfast on Friday at 7:30 a.m. IBF will honor Ruben Castillo, chief judge for the Northern District of Illinois, with the “Honorary Fellows Award,” and Roger G. Fein, a judge in the Circuit Court of Cook County, with the “Distinguished Service to Law and Society Award.”

    Two joint IJA/ISBA programs will be presented on Friday morning: “The Pitfalls of Running for Judicial Office” and “The Intersection of Technology and Law: The Impact of Social Media, Mobile Devices, the Internet and More.” Additionally, the ISBA will conduct two Master Series CLE seminars featuring nationally acclaimed speaker, Steven Stark, on “Speaking to Win: Building Effective Communication Skills” and “Legal Writing in the Smartphone Age.”

    The ISBA and The Chicago Bar Association will co-host a reception and dinner Friday evening for the Illinois Supreme Court, with remarks delivered by Chief Justice Rita B. Garman. The ISBA Assembly will convene on Saturday morning.

    Illinois State Bar Association President Paula H. Holderman presented on authentic networking for young lawyers on Nov. 14 at the John Marshall Law School. President Holderman has made issues facing new and young lawyers a key focus of her presidency.

    Scott C. Colky 1952-2013

    Chicago family law attorney Scott Colky, JD, passed away suddenly on Saturday, Nov. 30.

    A celebration of Scott's life will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, December 7th in the Oak Room of the Metropolitan Club, 66th floor, Willis Tower. People should bring stories and photographs of their memories of Scott for sharing. There will be music and light refreshments.

    Scott is survived by wife, Jennene, sons Joshua and Benjamin, brother, Michael (Deborah-deceased), sister, Dawn (husband Ed Kahn). Also, survived by his canine companions Gus and Zuma.

    In lieu of flowers, please contribute in Scott's name to the Greater Yellowstone Coalition or the Innocence Project.

    Sarah A. Ferrill joins the firm from Salvi Schostok & Pritchard P.C., where she was also an associate. Ms. Ferrill focuses her practice on Medical Negligence and Healthcare and General Trial Practice. She received her J.D. from John Marshall Law School in 2008 and her B.S. from Bradley University in 2005.
