Robert G. Gibson was sworn in on Monday as a Circuit Court Judge for the 18th Judicial Circuit Court in Wheaton. He will assume his duties on Aug. 2. Mr. Gibson will be assigned to the Chancery Division where his call will consist of Forcible Entries, non-commercial foreclosures and other matters as assigned.
Mr. Gibson graduated from the University of Illinois Law School in 1983. He was a partner with the law firm of Dommermuth, Brestal, Cobine and West for 27 years.

Before returning to the firm where he clerked while attending law school, Matt practiced plaintiffs’ civil rights law at Loevy & Loevy in Chicago. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, he received his Juris Doctorate degree in 2007 from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he was recognized for both his academic achievements and his commitment to public service. In 2005, the law school honored Matt’s personal dedication to public service by naming him a Public Interest Law Initiative Scholar. He is an active member of the American Bar Association, American Association for Justice, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, where he currently serves as co-chairman of its Civil Rights and Criminal Law Committee, and Illinois State Bar Association, where he is an investigator on the Judicial Evaluation Committee.

Judge Murray succeeds the Hon. La Quietta J. Hardy-Campbell. The Council awarded Legend Scholarships to Jason Allen of John Marshall Law School and Rebekah Childers of the University of Illinois School of Law. Legacy Scholarships were awarded to Carla Sherieves of John Marshall and Tamara Rogers-Grant of Loyola University School of Law. John Marshall's Calvin Townsend received the Role Model Scholarship.

ISBA Immediate Past President John O'Brien made the presentation along with ISBA President-elect John Locallo and ISBA 3rd Vice President Paula Holderman. "I have always felt a real connection to the Illinois State Bar Association," Chief Justice Fitzgerald said. "This only helps confirm that." The Board of Governors Award is for the purpose of recognizing lawyers for exemplary service to the profession and/or the Association and for recognizing nonlawyers for especially meritorious deeds or service that significantly advance the administration of justice or the goals of the profession or the Association.
