    Bohemian Lawyers' Association to host centennial celebration

    The Bohemian Lawyers' Association of Chicago will host a centennial celebration on Sept. 30, 2011 at the Chicago Hilton and Towers, 720 S. Michigan. This celebration will honor the law school exchange program between Masaryk University Law Faculty and The John Marshall Law School.

    The Bohemian Lawyers' Association was chartered on Oct. 4, 1911 and is the oldest ethnic bar association in the state. The evening will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m., a dinner at 7 p.m. and dancing to the music of the Marshall Vente Orchestra.

    Be sure to visit ISBA tent at Illinois State Fair!

    The Illinois State Bar Association will once again have a tent at the Illinois State Fair, starting today and continuing through August 21. The tent will look to help the public through the promotion of the ISBA's new Illinois Lawyer Finder public website.

    The tent offers legal brochures for the public and an Abraham Lincoln photo opportunity for state fair patrons who want to put their face in Lincoln's image. There is also a laptop connected to the Illinois Lawyer Finder site that visitors can try out and visit the ISBA's new consumer website. Visitors can also receive giveaways including: the infamous gavel pencils, small notepads and ISBA temporary tattoos.

    Environmental Law networking opportunity: Come meet fellow practitioners!

    The Illinois State Bar Association’s Environmental Law Section Council invites you to a joint networking event held in conjunction with the Chicago Bar Association’s Environmental Law Committee and YLS Environmental Committee. The event will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, from 4:00-6:00 p.m., in the CBA offices, located at 321 S. Plymouth Court.

    Last chance to register for Young Lawyers Golf Classic

    The Illinois State Bar Association Young Lawyers Division will host a golf outing on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont. This event will benefit the IBF/YLD Children’s Assistance Fund.

    The $150 ticket includes golf, cart, concession stand ticket, cocktails, dinner and CLE program. Tickets to attend just the evening dinner are $50 each. Many sponsorship opportunities are available, contact Janet Sosin at jsosin@isba.org for more information.

    Nordic Law Club revives Lutefisk Golf Open
    After a four-year hiatus, the Nordic Law Club’s popular Lutefisk Open will resume on Monday, Aug. 22, at Mission Hills Country Club in Northbrook with a shotgun start at noon. The benefit will include 18 holes of golf, contests and prizes, a box lunch and plated dinner. Named for a Scandinavian food staple, the outing will help fund scholarships for meritorious international law students whose ancestry can be traced to any of the 89 countries that were visited by Viking-era Norsemen a millennium ago. Lutefisk is a form of dried codfish that Vikings could use as paddles, tools, weapons and, of course, sustenance during their long voyages of exploration. The cost of an individual ticket for the complete Lutefisk Open is $155 per person, or $65 for only the dinner. Opportunities for hole sponsorships and other scholarship contributions are available.     Catch Cubs vs. Cards at IBF Baseball Classic

    The Illinois Bar Foundation Baseball Classic will be held on Friday, Aug. 19 for the Cards vs. Cubs. The action starts at 12:20 p.m. at the Brixen Ivy rooftop, 1044 W. Waveland. The game starts at 1:20 p.m. This location will provide the ultimate party atmosphere with tickets including private access to the 4th floor patio deck, shared entry to the sky deck and food and drinks.     Cook County Judge Diane Shelley to head Illinois Judicial Council

Shelley and Leonard Murray"][/caption] ISBA's Joyce Williams to receive Chairperson's Award Cook County Judge Diane M. Shelley will be installed as chair of the Illinois Judicial Council at the organization’s 29th annual Installation and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, July 16, at the historic Parkway Ballroom, 45th and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, in Chicago. Chicago television anchor Diann Burns will act as Mistress of Ceremonies, and Cook County Circuit Court Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans will handle the swearing-in of new officers. Judge Shelley will succeed Judge Leonard Murray as Chair of the Council. Founded in 1982, the Illinois Judicial Council addresses problems common to black judges in Illinois and strives to enhance the image of the judiciary by serving as a collective voice in strong support of its members. This year’s ceremony will feature a tribute to the founders of the Council, including current members Judge Everette A. Braden (Ret.); Judges Sophia Hall; Blanche Manning; and, Judge Albert S.
