    ATG opens Aurora office to expand services in Kane County

    Attorneys’ Title Guaranty Fund, Inc. is expanding its operations to Aurora, Ill., to provide convenience and services to lawyers, realtors, lenders, and home buyers and sellers whose real estate transactions are taking place in Kane County. The office at 1971 West Downer Place, Suite A, is conveniently located, has plenty of parking, and is staffed by knowledgeable ATG employees.

    ATG will host an open house on September 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. and invites local real estate lawyers and others in the profession to stop by and meet the ATG staff, including experienced manager Eric Rivas, who is relocating from ATG’s Wheaton office to run the Aurora facility.     UChicago Law School Dean and Jenner & Block Litigation Chair Open US Supreme Court and Appellate Clinic

    Jenner & Block and the University of Chicago Law School are pleased to announce the opening of the Jenner & Block University of Chicago Law School Supreme Court and Appellate Clinic, a rigorous education and training program for University of Chicago law students to help litigate cases before the United States' highest court.

    The Clinic represents parties and amici curiae in cases before the US Supreme Court and other appellate courts. Students participate in the researching and drafting of merits briefs, amicus briefs, and cert petitions, conduct research on cases that may be suitable to bring to the Court, and help prepare and participate in oral arguments.  Assistance is provided pro bono.  Although the Clinic's focus is the US Supreme Court, the Clinic may also handle cases at the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the Illinois Supreme Court.

    John Marshall Law School Alum Antonio Romanucci gives $100,000 to Pro Bono Clinic

    John Marshall Law School alumnus Antonio Romanucci has given $100,000 to the law school’s Pro Bono Program & Clinic. This first-of-its-kind gift will help fund the clinic for the next two years, John Marshall Dean John E. Corkery announced today.

    Romanucci, a leading Chicago plaintiff’s attorney, hopes his gift will make the Clinic’s work more impactful. “I would like to see the Clinic not only help the individual client, but also help insure the right policies are put in place moving forward so society is affected positively by the work we do,” said Romanucci, a 1985 graduate of the law school.

    Robert W. Ohlsen 1931-2016

    Robert W. Ohlsen, 85, of Decatur, passed away on July 27, 2016, in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

    Bob was born on June 18, 1931, in Downers Grove, IL, son of Angeline and Raymond Ohlsen. He married Barbara Reace in Chicago in 1958. He graduated from Peoria Central High School; Bradley University; University of Illinois School of Law, where he was a member of the Law Forum and the Order of the Coif; and Millikin University. Bob practiced law 54 years, until retirement in 2011.

    Surviving are his wife Barbara, son Daniel (Stephanie), of Longmont, CO, daughter Karen Horton (William), of Carmel, IN, grandchildren Braden Ohlsen of Salt Lake City, Connor Ohlsen of Boulder, CO, Claire Horton of Indianapolis, IN, and Wesley Horton of Portland, OR; sisters Charlotte Ragan and Barbara Poindexter, brother-in-law William Rae, and many loved nieces and nephews.

    Kent Bronson Hampton 1920-2016

    Kent Bronson Hampton, former vice president and general counsel of Marathon Oil Co. passed away early Saturday, July 23, 2016. Born in Mattoon, Il in 1920, he grew up in Evanston. He graduated from ETHS in 1938, and from Grinnell College (Iowa) in 1942. He graduated from the Navy's OCS at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in 1943 and served in the Atlantic and Pacific theatres in WWII as a navigator aboard an amphibious craft and a destroyer escort. He earned a law degree from the University of Michigan in 1949. He joined the Ohio Oil Company (now Marathon Oil Co.) in 1951. His most notable accomplishment was to lead the legal team that thwarted Mobil Oil Co.'s attempted takeover of Marathon in 1981-82. Mr. Hampton first engaged in law practice in Charleston, IL in 1949. He was a member of the Illinois Bar Association for sixty years.

    Jeffrey M. Friedman has transitioned to the position of Counsel at Fox Rothschild LLP in order to take on the newly created role of General Counsel to Core Spaces. He will maintain a law practice in Fox’s Chicago office.

    Core Spaces delivers dynamic acquisition, development and management services for urban residential, hospitality and student housing projects. The company operates out of both Chicago and Austin, Texas, and employs a skilled leadership team with significant experience in financing, acquiring, developing and managing real estate projects.

    Meredith S. Fox joins Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP from Cassiday Schade LLP, where she was also an associate. She focuses her practice on Medical Negligence and Healthcare. Ms. Fox received her J.D. in 2012 from The John Marshall Law School and her B.A. in 2007 from Haverford College.

    Hunter Nominated to the Art Institute of Chicago's Leadership Advisory Committee

    The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP today announced that Chicago partner Steven Hunter has been nominated to the Leadership Advisory Committee of the Art Institute of Chicago.

    In 1994, the Art Institute established a committee comprised of African-American community leaders with the mission to promote and sustain diversity within the institution. Launched with a grant from the Lila Wallace Reader's Digest Fund, the initiative continues today as the Leadership Advisory Committee (LAC).

    Hon. Bernthal joins ADR Systems

    For more than 21 years, the Hon. David G. Bernthal, a popular federal magistrate judge, presided over thousands of cases at the US District Court for the Central District of Illinois. During his time on the bench, Judge Bernthal was praised by the legal community for his skills as a jurist, often being described as both a learned scholar and an efficient administrator. 

    As a magistrate judge, he worked to mediate and settle many of the cases on his calendar. The unique settlement skill of a magistrate judge is critical to driving the federal court docket forward efficiently. Cases that need to be heard can come before a judge in a timely manner.
