The law firm of Schiller DuCanto & Fleck LLP announces the addition of Jacqueline Stephens Breisch as a new associate in the Lake Forest office. She has extensive experience in family law cases involving custody, maintenance, child support, property division, and finding creative solutions to deal with complex financial matters associated with divorce.  

A child of divorce and an older sister to six half-siblings from both her parents’ second marriages, Breisch understands first-hand what it means to be a “modern family” and the increasing challenges facing divorcing couples.

“It is an incredibly exciting time to be a family law attorney. As social norms continue to change and family dynamics become increasingly complex, so does the divorce process and related issues. We are terribly saddened to report that our friend and colleague, Brooke Whitted, passed away Sunday, July 27th. He was a partner in the Northbrook law firm of Whitted Takiff + Hansen, LLC.

Brooke made thousands of lives better for more than four decades as a probation officer, a lawyer, and a friend to many. He was one of the most caring individuals we have known. Brooke spent his life using his creative mind and positive energy to help others. He saved children’s lives by getting them the services they needed and helped school districts develop and implement child-focused educational practices. Brooke helped plan and create schools that have helped multitudes, and that will continue to help children and their families far into the future.

Brooke’s legacy is immense. He was a wonderful, warm and powerful force, who helped families in some of their darkest times.

He will be missed.

A memorial reception celebrating Brooke Whitted’s life will be held at Westmoreland Country Club on Saturday, August 16th from 2-5 p.m.

Momkus McCluskey, LLC is pleased to announce the promotion of Jennifer L. Friedland to the position of Partner. Prior to her partnership, Ms. Friedland was an Associate Attorney at Momkus McCluskey, LLC for nearly eight years. She focuses her practice in commercial and business litigation, civil litigation, and appellate law.

"Jennifer is, and has always been, a great asset to our firm.  She is bright, articulate, and extraordinarily dedicated to her practice and clients. I am proud to call her my partner," says Partner James F. McCluskey.

Most recently, Ms. Friedland has achieved success at the trial and appellate court levels in a breach of contract case wherein she defended a manufacturer of parts to be used by the United States Army in mine-resistant ambush protected vehicles. Ms. Friedland also prevailed in an appeal of a summary judgment order entered pursuant to the Illinois Trade Secrets Act.  She has presented oral argument before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the Illinois Second District Appellate Court.

Ms. Friedland graduated from Tulane University Law School in 2006 and earned an Environmental Law Certificate and was awarded the Community Service Award for Commitment to Public Service. Her undergraduate degree was obtained in 2001, magna cum laude, from the University of Kentucky.  

Stanley J. Roszkowski, 91, former district judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, passed away on July 7 in Rockford.

On July 19, 1977, President Jimmy Carter nominated him to a seat on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Judge Roszkowski initially was assigned to hear cases in Chicago, where he served full time for seven years, while also hearing cases part time in Rockford.

He advocated for a permanent court in Rockford. On November 1, 1984, Judge Roszkowski was assigned as the first full time District Court Judge in the Western Division. He served in the Western Division until his retirement in 1988.

In 2009, Senator Richard J. Durbin introduced legislation to name the United States Courthouse in Rockford, then under construction, for Judge Roszkowski. The legislation became Public Law 111-14 when President Obama signed the bill into law on April 23, 2009. The Stanley J. Roszkowski U.S. Courthouse was officially opened and dedicated on October 29, 2011.

Chief Judge Ruben Castillo said, “Judge Roszkowski was an outstanding jurist and a wonderful colleague. Stan was a true American hero and patriot who served his country admirably in World War II as a member of the Air Force. He flew numerous combat missions over Europe in the infamous Flying Fortress Bomber Squads. Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Roszkowski was one of Rockford’s premier trial attorneys. We will miss him greatly, and our hearts go out to his entire family.”
