QUINCY — Quincy University’s Board of Trustees has appointed Jean Buckley as the chair of the board and Hal Oakley as vice-chair. Buckley assumes the board chair position that has been held by Ralph Oakley since 2023. Ralph Oakley will remain on the board. Hal Oakley assumes the board vice-chair position that was held by Bill Metzinger who will also remain on the board.

CARTHAGE, Ill. — Debra B. Walker, a native of Carthage, and Chicago attorney Genevieve E. (nee Niemann) Miller, a native of Quincy were recently honored by the Illinois State Bar Association. Miller received ISBA’s Young Lawyer of the Year Award, while Walker received ISBA’s Carole Bellows Woman of Influence Award.
These awards, among others, were presented during the association’s annual awards ceremony on May 15 at the Morton Arboretum, a nature preserve area in DuPage County. The ISBA awards recognize outstanding achievement in various areas.

First District Appellate Court Justice Thomas E. Hoffman passed away on July 4, 2025. Justice Hoffman had served on the First District Court since 1993.
Justice Hoffman was born in Chicago on Dec. 23, 1947. He earned his undergraduate degree from Loyola University in 1969 and his J.D. from the UIC School of Law (formerly John Marshall Law School) in 1971.
