The event was held as part of the 2012 Italian-American Heritage Month Celebration.

Thomas E. Harrington Sr. passed away at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 8, 2012) at home in Champaign.
Tom was born March 2, 1931, in Urbana, the son of Earl C. and Genevieve E. Harrington. He attended Holy Cross School and Champaign High School, graduating as a member of the 1949 class known as the 49er's. Tom loved athletics and lettered in golf, basketball and football in high school. He attended the University of Illinois, graduating in 1953 and was a member of varsity golf team from 1950 to 1953. He then graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law school in 1955.
Tom married Andrea Gunn on Aug. 21, 1954, in Danville, and she survives. They raised four sons, Tom Harrington Jr. (Barb) of Champaign, Dan Harrington (Marianne) of Delray Beach, Fla., Tim Harrington (Kris) of Champaign and Steve Harrington (Lee) of Cocoa Beach, Fla. He is also survived by grandchildren, Elizabeth Wellman (Rob) of Indianapolis, Thomas E. Harrington III of Peoria, Patrick Harrington, Andrew (Emily) Harrington, Danielle (Ryan) Bender, Blakely Harrington, Richard Harrington, Jack Harrington, Joe Harrington, Genevieve Harrington, Kassie Jones and Kyler Jones, all of Champaign, and Amelia Harrington, Michael Harrington, Hannah Jane Harrington and Katherine Harrington, all of Cocoa Beach, Fla.
Also surviving are brother and sister-in-law, Donald J. Porter and Peggy Porter of Urbana. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law, W. Kenneth Porter and Leta Porter, and sister, Sister Teresa Ann Harrington OSB.

ISBA member Steve Baker is being honored by receipt of "The Promotion of Social Justice Award" by the Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Details are below for the Nov. 9th dinner and ceremony. The award states as follows:
"A lawyer since 1978, Stephen W. Baker has served the Illinois criminal defense community for decades both in the courtrooms - as an Assistant Public Defender and later the Public Defender of DuPage County - and in the halls of the Illinois Legislature. He has worked vigorously for groups such as the Cook County Public Defender's Office, the Illinois Public Defender Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Steve has fought tirelessly for years against an unending tide of efforts to increase sentences, expand the scope of Illinois criminal laws, shrink our civil liberties, and keep the death penalty. His efforts merit his selection as the first recipient of IACDL's Promotion of Social Justice Award."
Steve and other recipients will be honored at IACDL's Annual Dinner, on Friday, November 9, 2012 at the University Club, 76 East Monroe, Chicago, IL 60603. Cocktails will begin at 6:00 P.M. (cash bar) with dinner to be served at 7 P.M.

August B. Black passed away on October 20, 2012. August (Augie) was born in Morris, Illinois on August 1, 1915, the son of Frank Black and Kate (Ryan) Black.
Augie graduated from Morris High School in 1933. He attended St. Viator's College and graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1940. He was admitted to the practice of law in 1940. He served 51 months in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Special Military Intelligence Agent.
Augie and his brother, John Black, formed the law partnership of Black & Black in 1947, and Black & Black has continued with sons George, Frank, Donald, Richard, James, and grandsons, Timothy and Bryan Black. Augie Black was elected State's Attorney of Grundy County in 1948. He was re-elected 3 times for 16 years of public service. He became President of the Illinois State's Attorney's Association.
Augie married Marie Weber of Bellwood, Illinois on October 19, 1944. He is survived by Marie and their 9 children: George, Don, (Kathy), Frank, Jean, Ed, Linda, Jim (Marifran), Michael (Tricia), and Richard. Also surviving are his sister, Sister Lorraine Black, Sisters of The Holy Cross, Notre Dame, Indiana; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. -

Dana Mehlman, a Chicago-based attorney in the Environmental Law Practice of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Alumni Association. Her four-year term began at the Board meeting held on UIUC campus in Urbana, Illinois, on Friday, September 14.
Ms. Mehlman has been a member of the CEE Alumni Association since 1999. From 2003 through 2007, while living in Atlanta, she served as President of the Atlanta Illini, the University’s local alumni affiliate, where she was the primary point of contact between more than 3,000 alumni of the University of Illinois residing in the Atlanta metropolitan area and the University.
The mission of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Association is to support the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering faculty, staff, students, and alumni and to inspire lifelong loyalty and pride among alumni and friends by developing and enhancing their continued relationship with the Department. To fulfill its mission, the Association has a Board of Directors to provide advice and counsel to the Department, to recognize distinguished alumni, to foster collegial alumni relations and alumni support of the Department, to mentor students and facilitate their entry into the civil and environmental engineering profession, to represent the Department’s activities conducted by the Alumni Association, and to support the Department’s public outreach activities.

Etha "Bea" Fox, 98, died of complications from pneumonia on Sept. 8 at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago.
Fox was a retired Captain of the U.S. Coast Guard, and beloved daughter of the late Dr. Nathan l. Fox and Mary (nee Diamond). She practiced before the US Court of Appeals, Law and Business Administration Division. Bea was a life trustee of Chicago Sinai Congregation, founder and secretary of Emeritus Woman's Bar Association, Chicago Chapter. Member of Illinois State Bar Association and American Bar Association. Member of National Council for Jewish Women.

First District Appellate Justice Michael James Murphy, 71, passed away on Monday, Oct. 1 of an unspecified caused.
Murphy became a Cook County associate judge in 1985. He was elected a circuit judge in 1992 and elected to the 1st District Appellate Court in 2006.
He was the beloved husband of Mary Ellen, nee Lowrey; loving father of Courtney (Derek) Eovaldi, Nora Lowrey Murphy, and the late Tracy (Trey) Ish. Son of the late Arthur Joseph and Eileen, nee Kelly. Brother of Arthur (Audrey), Mary (Charles) Erickson, Hon. Patrick (Susan), Eileen (Hon. David) Donnersberger, John, Thomas (Margaret) and the late Rev. Joseph Murphy. Fond uncle of Arthur III, Ann, Joann, Kim, Jeannie, Maureen, Matthew, Joe, Mary Eileen, Mark, Justin, Jacob, Molly, Madeline, Clare, Tom, Katie, and Kevin. Cherished grandfather of Albie, Michael, and Katie Ish; Joey, Luke, and Ella Eovaldi. Great-Uncle to many. He was truly loved and will be dearly missed.

Attorney Don Edwin Johnson, 73, formally of Pinckneyville, Illinois, died on September 27, 2012, in St. Louis, Missouri, where he had resided since retiring in 2006.
He was born on January 29, 1939, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Benjamin Edwin Johnson and Mary Louis Pitzer Johnson. He spent his childhood on the family farm in Assumption, Illinois.
He enrolled at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois at age 16 and graduated cum laude in 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He also spent a semester at American University in Washington DC. In 1961 he received a Juris Doctorate from the University of Illinois specializing in Taxation and Mineral Law.
He married Suzanne Curtis in Mt. Vernon, Illinois on August 23, 1959.
He was appointed law clerk for Justice Byron O. House of the Illinois Supreme Court and joined the law firm of House and House in Nashville, Illinois. He then started the law offices of Hohlt, House, DeMoss, and Johnson in Pinckneyville and DuQuoin, Illinois, and later became the senior partner of Johnson, Seibert, and Bigham in Pinckneyville.
He was a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and Chairman of the Federal Taxation and Mineral Law Section Councils. He was also a member of the Illinois Bar Foundation, American Bar Association and Foundation, Eastern Mineral Law Foundation, and the Perry County Bar Association.
He held three public offices: States Attorney of Perry County, City Attorney of DuQuoin, Illinois, and City Attorney of Pinckneyville, Illinois for twenty years.
