Thomas A. Krieg, 62, of Morton, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at his residence. He was born on April 22, 1954, in Blue Island, Ill., to Arthur and Gloria (Wiersema) Krieg. He married Diann Harding on August 31, 1985, in Morton.
He is survived by his wife, father, two sisters, Marcia (Ken) Sezer, and Beverly (Tom) Hans, one brother, Paul (Penny) Krieg, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his mother in law, sister and brother in laws. He is preceded in death by his mother.
David Ellis Robinson, 79, of Jacksonville, passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, at Heritage Health.
He was born, April 15, 1937, in Clinton, to Guy Truman Robinson and Dorothy Ellis Robinson.
He attended Clinton Community High School (Class of 1955) and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Illinois College in 1959. He was a member of Phi Alpha Literary Society, Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society for Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Pi Kappa Delta, the National Forensics Fraternity. He attended University of Illinois College of Law, receiving his law degree in June 1962. He was a member of the Illinois State Bar Association. He actively served in the United States Navy at Great Lakes Naval Station and the Naval Justice School in Newport Rhode Island, attaining the rank of lieutenant. Following an honorable discharge from active duty, he continued to serve in the Naval Reserve until his honorable discharge in 1974.

David D. Koski, 72, of Rockford went up to heaven on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Born August 8, 1944, in DeKalb, IL to Carl and Dora (Mosher) Koski. David married his sweetie, Gail Sherven, on December 15, 1973. Together, they raised four kids, of whom he was immensely proud, Lisa (Dawn) Koski of Janesville, WI, John (Christy) Koski of Wichita Falls, TX, Katie (Gordie) Johnson of Roscoe, IL and Daniel (Paola) Koski currently of Tirana, Albania.
Gregory Andrew Brown, 47, of Sycamore completed his life story on September 11, 2016 after a fierce nine-month battle with cancer.
Greg entered the world in Newport News, Virginia on October 2, 1968, son of Virginia and Ralph Brown. He spent much of his childhood living abroad in Spain, relocating for a short time to Beaumont, Texas before moving to Barrington, Illinois after finishing middle school. He attended Barrington High School where he met his future wife Donna and proceeded to follow her to the University of Illinois (though he might tell a slightly different version of the story). After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, he headed to DeKalb where he attended law school at Northern Illinois University. He graduated in 1993 and was sworn into the Illinois Bar the same year.
The Illinois Supreme Court has appointed Christopher Bonjean as Director of the Office of Communications and Public Information, effective October 3, 2016. He will head a newly reorganized communications operation, which has been charged with developing strategies to inform and educate a diverse public about the judicial branch of state government and promote public confidence in the administration of justice.
Chief Justice Rita Garman explained that the impetus to expand and emphasize the public information function came, in part, from the results of a survey conducted in the spring of 2015. Under the leadership of Fourth District Appellate Justice Carol Pope, chairperson of the Court’s Strategic Planning Committee, the survey was carried out in every courthouse in the state. Questionnaires were distributed to all users of the court facility including parties, witnesses, jurors, and other visitors.
James Brooks Kinzer, age 92 - husband of the late Vaida; responsible and caring father of his children Jamie of Los Angeles; James Brooks (Margaret Morris), a Circuit Court judge in Watseka, Illinois; John Byron (Mary Kate Tobin), a physician in Lake Forest, Illinois; and twins Margaret Kirk (John Meyers) of Philadelphia, and Janet Deering (Alan Abrams), a librarian at the Library of Congress - passed away peacefully on Friday, September 2.
Born on July 10, 1924 in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania, to James "Brooks" Kinzer and Lillian Williams, Jim is best remembered as intelligent, resourceful, and truly one-of-a kind, not to mention a "character" by those who knew him well. His final years were spent in Lake Bluff where he became known simply as "granddad" to his family and the community. Jim could often be seen whipping around in his motor scooter at the age of 85. An adventurist, Jim's best known phrase, "Ain't life grand," was indicative of his enthusiastic love and curiosity for the natural world.
Charl Kenneth Stowe, age 64 of Greenville, passed away 11:11 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2016 in Good Samaritan Hospital, Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Charl Kenneth, the son of Carl Henry and June Wood Stowe, was born October 4, 1951. He lived in Greenville and is survived by his siblings: Marilyn Stowe, Rus-Daniella Weissman and husband Rabbi Abe, and Dr. Charlotte Rosenak. Charl was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Ben Stowe in 2001.
Services have been held. Memorials may be made to Call To Greatness ministry or Bond County Humane Society.
Governor Bruce Rauner has appointed ISBA member Mauro Glorioso to be the new Chairman of the State of Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board (PTAB).
Glorioso has been a member of the statewide five member board for eight years and was recently appointed its Chairman. Board members are appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. The Senate confirmed Glorioso’s appointment by a vote of 52-0.
“I am honored by Governor Rauner’s confidence in me to serve the Citizens of the State of Illinois as the Chairman of the PTAB," Glorioso said. "The PTAB exists to insure that the Taxpayers of the State have an avenue of relief to make certain that their real property assessments are fair and uniform.”
The PTAB provides that taxpayer service through the Administrative Law Process and does not charge to file cases at its offices. Cases are then assigned to administrative law judges (ALJ) to be heard and considered. A written decision is prepared which is reviewed by the board. The Board’s charge is to determine the correct assessed value of the property under consideration. It does not determine tax bills. Appeals can be made to the PTAB only after a board of review determination from any county in Illinois. Prior to becoming a board member, Glorioso served as an ALJ at the agency for eight years.
Professor William A. Schroeder, 73, passed away at 6:41 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
He was born March 19, 1943, to Arthur Carl and Rolande (Legault) Schroeder in Chicago.
William graduated from York High School in 1961. He was a Fulbright Scholarship recipient and attended the University of Illinois where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Juris Doctor Degree. He then went on to earn his LLM from Harvard University. William was a member of U.S. Supreme Court in addition to multiple U.S. District Courts, U.S. Court of Appeals and many State Bars. Prior to his career in academia he practiced law in Boston, Massachusetts and Rochester, New York. Before coming to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, where he joined the faculty in 1984, he taught at multiple universities in Boston, Missouri and Alabama. Since arriving at SIU School of Law he has been a cherished member of the community. He was an esteemed teacher and scholar, and was loved by his family, friends, colleagues, and students.
