    John Elmer Peterson 1941-2012

    John Elmer Peterson, 71, of Lake Geneva, WI and long time resident of Plainfield, IL, passed away on August 26, 2012 from heart failure.

    Born to the late John Peterson and Catherine (Kehoe) Peterson in New Britain, CT, John grew up in Newington, CT. He graduated from St. Francis College (now University of New-England) in Biddeford, Maine and DePaul Law School in Chicago. John and Mary settled in Plainfield, IL, where they raised their children and John practiced law for 35 years.

    They discovered Lake Geneva and purchased a house in 1972. John and Mary retired to this wonderful community in 2009. John was an active member in the Plainfield community as a long time baseball coach, Lions Club member, Rotary Club member, Plainfield Park Board member and the Mayor of the Village of Plainfield from 1993 to 1997. John participated in many legal associations. He was a member of the Illinois and Wisconsin Bar Association and founding member and past president of the Walworth County Estate Planning Council.

    Arthur J. Martin 1947-2012

    Art Martin, who died Saturday (Aug. 11, 2012) at age 64, was a nationally known labor lawyer, who often represented low-paid employees working in health care. He lived in University City, Mo.

    As a young man, he was a union factory worker. He became a union organizer before deciding he could win more fights as a lawyer.

    Last year, he was the only witness to testify for unions before a Republican-dominated U.S. House committee investigating whether labor laws are unfair to business.

    Arthur Joseph Martin died Saturday after a morning bicycle trip near Fredericktown, Mo., with his wife, Janine Martin, also a labor attorney. Doctors later found that he had suffered a heart attack, she said Wednesday.

    Mr. Martin was one of the relatively few labor lawyers here or elsewhere who represent workers.

    "Unions simply cannot pay that kind of hourly rate," said Mike Wolff, a professor at St. Louis University School of Law.

    Raymond Roffi 1927-2012

    Raymond "Ray" Roffi, age 84, of Tempe, AZ, formerly of Western Springs, IL passed away on August 23, 2012. Ray, beloved father and grandfather of a wonderfully close family will be loved and missed by all. He was born in Chicago on November 25, 1927.

    After graduating from Morton High School in 1945, he enlisted in the US Navy at 17 years old and was honorably discharged on August 22, 1946. He married his high school sweetheart, Elaine Fiscella on August 27, 1950. They were married almost 58 years before her passing in May, 2008. Ray received his JD Law degree from DePaul University in 1953. He was a prominent Chicago attorney for over 40 years. Ray retired in 2002 and moved to AZ with his wife, Elaine, in 2005.

    Robert “Bob” Paul Revenaugh 1930-2012

    Robert “Bob” Paul Revenaugh, 82, of Elizabeth, formerly of Barrington, died on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at home. He was born on March 1, 1930, the son of the late Paul and Edna (Kiles) Revenaugh. While serving on the Army ski patrol, he met his wife Helga. Bob married Helga Just on Dec. 12, 1956, in Germany.

    Bob was president and owner of Professional Business Management. He was past president of the Society of Professional Business Consultants. He was a member of the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Massbach.

    Bob enjoyed skiing and volunteering at Wilmot Mountain Ski Patrol. He loved music and singing at social events and church. He played the piano and banjo. He loved the peace of his farm, driving his tractors, and working in his shop.

    He is survived by his wife, Helga; daughter, Barbara (Art) Garcia of Elizabeth; two sons, Jim Revenaugh of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mark (Chrissy) Revenaugh of Portland, Ore.; and four grandchildren, Dana Spoerl, Elli, and Miles and Taye Revenaugh. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jim and Bill.

    A memorial fund has been established for the Doctors Without Borders.

    Mary Catherine Taylor 1948-2012

    Taylor, Mary Catherine (nee McKerral) M. Catherine Taylor, a longtime South Suburban resident and for the past 20 years a Chicago resident, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 2. Catherine was the beloved daughter of Gordon D. and Mary M. McKerral, both deceased.

    Since 2008 she was the Associate Director for the Center for Disability & Elder Law in Chicago. This position followed 15 years of private practice most recently with the firm of Spain Spain and Varnet PC, where she focused on probate, specifically guardianship and decedents' estates, as well as estate and benefit planning for persons with disabilities and their families. She also practiced in the areas of family law and general civil litigation.

    Catherine was active in the Chicago Bar Association and served on the Probate Practice and Legal Aid Committees. She also served on the General Practice Section Council of the Illinois State Bar Association. Catherine began her legal career following a 20-year administrative career at Governor's State University in positions including Executive Assistant to the President, Affirmative Action Officer and Dean of Student Affairs, where she developed policies and programs for compliance with Federal and State statutes related to employment, education and access for persons with disabilities. She was licensed in Illinois and was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court.

    Samuel S. Blane 1920-2012

    Samuel S. Blane of Petersburg died on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Kindred Hospital in Springfield at the age of 92 years.

    Mr. Blane, a native of Petersburg, was born January 30, 1920, a son of Frank E. and Floss (Shepherd) Blane. He graduated from Knox College immediately prior to World War II and after the war attended and graduated from the University of Illinois Law School. He practiced law in Petersburg for more than 60 years; from 1948 forward.

    After law school, he was admitted to the Bar in 1948 and thereafter became the 3rd generation of his family of lawyers to practice in Petersburg. It started with his grandfather, Captain H.S. Blane, whose career commenced in 1867 until 1902; then his father, Frank E. Blane, whose law practice started in 1892 until 1941.

    He received the Chicago Tribune Award for Military Proficiency in 1942. A veteran of the Pacific Theatre from World War II, he was commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force with a rank of Major when discharged in 1946. A lifetime member of VFW Post #6871 and a life member of American Legion Post #198 from which in 2007 he achieved 60 years status.

    In 1949 in Petersburg he married Greta Schoone, a local resident, and they had one son and two daughters.

    Active in many civic and community affairs, he also served his church, Petersburg First Christian Church, as both Elder and Trustee.

    John William Gosselin 1934-2012

    John William Gosselin, 78, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at his home in Batavia. He was born Feb. 20, 1934, in Aurora, to John Stephen Gosselin and Betty Gosselin (nee Willoughby).

    He graduated from West Aurora High School in 1952 and from Beloit College in 1956, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He received the degree of Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago in 1959.

    Mr. Gosselin was an attorney in the Batavia law firm of Benson, Mair and Gosselin and was the city attorney of Batavia for many years. He was a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Kane County Bar Association and the Batavia Moose Lodge.

    He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judith Gosselin (nee Wheeler); his four children, Kathleen Gosselin (Arnold Kalnins), Gabrielle Gosselin Clai (Rudy), John W. Gosselin and Thomas Gosselin (Stephanie); and his grandchildren, Wilson Willoughby Gosselin, Margaret Rose Gosselin and Frances Mae Gosselin.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Charles Gosselin; and his sister, Susan Gosselin Preihs.

    Per his request, there will be no visitation. Burial will be private.

    Sara Cooper joins Quarles & Brady's Real Estate Practice Group in Chicago

    The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP announced that Sara A. Cooper has joined the firm's Chicago office as an associate in the Real Estate Practice Group.

    Cooper's practice includes representation of a variety of clients in real estate matters such as acquisitions and dispositions of investment real estate and corporate real estate holdings, negotiation of office and retail leases; and other real estate transactions and commercial transactions.

    She received her law degree, with honors, from Chicago-Kent College of Law and her undergraduate degree, cum laude, from Boston College.

    Stacy Campbell-Viamontes Elected President of CDEL's Young Professionals Board; Named to Just The Beginning Foundation's 20 Under 40 List

    Stacy Campbell-Viamontes, a Chicago-based attorney in the Defense Litigation Practice at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, has been elected President of the Young Professionals Board for the Center for Disability and Elder Law (CDEL) for the 2012-2013 term. She was also chosen to be a member of CDEL's 2013 Winter Benefit Committee. CDEL is a non-profit legal services organization that provides pro bono legal services to low-income seniors and/or persons with disabilities in Cook County.  

    In addition, Stacy has also been selected to Just The Beginning Foundation’s (JTBF’s) 20 Under 40 List. She will be honored during an event at Northwestern University Law School on Thursday, September 20, 2012. Stacy was selected for this honor in recognition of her extensive advocacy on behalf of the disabled community and her efforts to assist disabled law students and lawyers, and the disability community.

    At Hinshaw, Stacy defends clients in a broad range of business and personal injury matters and litigates cases involving corporation and partnership disputes, construction law, products liability and transportation law.

    Nura Yanaki joins Litigation Department of Polsinelli Shughart's Chicago office

    Polsinelli Shughart welcomes Nura A. Yanaki to the Chicago office as an associate in the Litigation Department where she will concentrate her practice in the defense of companies involved in complex toxic and mass tort litigation. Yanaki joins a national team of toxic and mass tort attorneys who practice in Chicago, Kansas City, Phoenix and St. Louis.

    “We are pleased to have Nura join our growing Chicago office,” said Chicago Managing Director Anthony J. Nasharr. “Nura was an outstanding law student and excelled in her undergraduate work in California. Her work since leaving law school has also prepared her for the broad-based litigation she will help handle for clients at the firm.”

    Yanaki most recently worked with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, with a team of trial attorneys on class action cases involving Title VII and ADA violations.

    While in law school Yanaki externed with various federal agencies including; the U.S. Department of Justice – Executive Office for Immigration Review, and the U.S. Department of Labor – Employee Benefits Security Administration, as well as the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She also served as an Illinois 711 certified senior law student where she represented a child as a guardian ad litem in Cook County Probate Court.
