Former ISBA board member Hon. Sheila M. Murphy will be honored at Phi Alpha Delta Law's annual St. PADdy's Day Luncheon on Wednesday, March 16 at the Union League Club of Chicago. Murphy is being honored for her outstanding community service, commitment to justice and tireless advocacy of human rights. The event will feature traditional Irish fare, friends and musical guest Seanchie.

The Chicago Alumni Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International, will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding at a Centennial Banquet on Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the Hotel InterContinental on the Magnificent Mile, 505 North Michigan Ave. The celebration will begin with a reception at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner and program commencing at 7:00 p.m. As part of festivities, the chapter and the fraternity's International Executive Board will be honoring Hon. James F. Holderman, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, with the Hon. Mary Ann G. McMorrow Distinguished Service to the Legal Profession Award. As this event is being held during the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., national holiday weekend, the group will also recognize Hon. Timothy C. Evans, Chief Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, for his outstanding work in diversifying and administering one of the largest unified court system in the United States. This event commemorated the 108th anniversary of the founding of the Chapter. In accordance with the fraternity's mission of service to the community, the students directed that a portion of the proceeds from the event be donated to the Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women's Network. At the conclusion of the event, a check for $1,800.00 was presented to the Network, an organization which not only administers the City of Chicago/State of Illinois 24-hour, toll-free Domestic Violence Help Line - which has assisted over 100,000 women and children in need since its inception in 1998 - but also spearheads advocacy efforts to improve the practices of the legal system in regards to domestic violence issues.

The Chicago Alumni Chapter annually awards scholarships to deserving law students, named in honor of the late Daniel P. Ward, who served the profession in a number of distinguished positions: Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court, Cook County State's Attorney, and Dean of DePaul University College of Law. Justice Ward was a model for the Fraternity's mission of service to the student, the school, the profession and the community, which is exemplified by this year's six recipients, who received a total of $5,000. $1,000 Awardees: Nicholas J. Liadis, DePaul University College of Law; Janet Soave, Loyola University School of Law. $750 Awardees: Megan Liston, The John Marshall Law School; Jennifer Weston, Northern Illinois University College of Law.

Jochner, Justice of the Chicago Alumni Chapter, was honored with the Fraternity's "Outstanding Alumni Chapter Justice Award," in recognition of her leadership and vision in promoting the Fraternity's core value of service to the profession and the community. In addition, under her guidance, the Chicago Alumni Chapter was also named the Fraternity's "Outstanding Alumni Chapter" for 2010. Michele, a past member of the ISBA Board of Governors and 2006-2007 ISBA Secretary, also continues to write on various legal issues, and has recently been published in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and the CBA Record. In addition, she has also been a speaker at a number of legal seminars across the state.

During this event, the Chapter renamed its "Outstanding Service to the Legal Profession Award" in honor of Justice Mary Ann G. McMorrow (Ret.), and presented her with the inaugural award. Justice McMorrow was the first woman elected to the Illinois Supreme Court, the first female Chief Justice of that tribunal, and the first woman to head any branch of Illinois state government. Leighton as an Honorary Member of the fraternity on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 4:30 p.m. This ceremony will be followed by remarks delivered by Judge Leighton as part of the Chapter's "Distinguished Lecture Series." In order for an alumni chapter to receive this prestigious honor, it must exhibit extraordinary accomplishments in carrying out the Fraternity's mission of service to the student, the school, the profession and the community. In earning this recognition, the Chicago Alumni Chapter bested all other alumni chapters across the country. Michele M. Jochner, Justice of the Chicago Alumni Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, accepted the award on behalf of the Chicago Chapter during Phi Alpha Delta's District XI Conference.
