Sandra Crawford for Board of Governors

Biography

Sandra Crawford

For over 30 years, Sandra has dedicated her legal and mediation practices to educating and leading clients to the clearest path toward peaceful resolution of their unique issues. She helps people move out of conflict using the most appropriate dispute resolution model for their individual concerns - be that Collaborative Process, mediation, limited scope representation or settlement advocacy. As legal disputes and status adjustments (such as: formation of or dissolution of marriages or partnerships) can be costly in terms of money, time lost, and emotional stress, it is critical for people facing such life changing events to be educated about and clearly understand their process options and the various paths to resolution of legal issue before proceeding.

Sandra has been licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois since 1990 and was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in 2005. She received her mediation training from the Center for Conflict Resolution in 1993; and her training in Collaborative Practice in 2002 from the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois. Sandra areas of concentration are family law, Collaborative Process, and mediation. She is an adjunct professor for the 40-hour Divorce Mediation Training Program at Northwestern University’s School of Professional Studies.

Sandra served as the president of the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois (CLII) from 2009-2010. She is a past Chair of ISBA’s Women in the Law Committee, the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section Council and of the ISBA’s Delivery of Legal Service Committee. She served on ISBA’s Judicial Evaluation Committee for Cook County for 16 years. She completed her term as the President of the Illinois Bar Foundation in June 2023. In 2018, Sandra received the ISBA’s Matthew Maloney Award. She served several terms in the ISBA Assembly. She hopes to continue her commitment of service to the ISBA.

Issue Statement

Sandra has served multiple terms on the ISBA's Delivery of Legal Services, ADR and Women in the Law Committees and for many years on the Illinois Bar Foundation, whose major goal is to support access to justice. Through this bar service, Sandra has been able to focus on examining issues which impact how law is practiced in Illinois, what emerging models of dispute resolution can help increase access to justice, and the impact of laws and legislation on minorities. If the ISBA members see fit to elect Sandra to the Board of Governors, she will continue to work on these issues with the input of the members as to how they believe legal services and access to justice can be improved for the citizens of Illinois.
