Stephen Komie

Mr. Komie is an experienced solo practitioner, graduate of DePaul Law School, and full-time trial lawyer. He is a frequent CLE lecturer on trial subjects and solo and small firm office management, helping law firms improve efficiency and profitability.

Over his 40+ years as a bar leader, he has received the Board of Governors Award and numerous citations for his service to the ISBA. He has been elected to the Illinois Bar Assembly for more than 30 years. He has been elected to the Board of Governors for multiple terms totaling 23+ years, and he has served as Secretary, Treasurer, and Ambassador for the ISBA to the Rededication of the Magna Carta. His ISBA bar leadership includes: Illinois Bar Foundation, Director, Fellow & Pillar of the Profession; 4-time Participant, Allerton House Conference; Chair: Task Force on Attorneys for Children 1997-1999; Committee on Credentials; GATS Task Force, 2005; By-Laws Committee; Committee on Professionalism, 1991-92; Criminal Justice Section 1989-2016; Human Rights Section, Founding Member. He has been a member of the following Committees or Sections: ARDC Committee; CLE Committee; Civil Practice; Family Law Section; Task Force, Judicial Compensation; and Traffic Laws & Courts.

He is also a member of other local and national bar associations: American Bar Association, American Association for Justice, Appellate Lawyers, Illinois Trial Lawyers, National Trial Lawyers, Chicago, DuPage County, Will County, North Suburban, Northwest Suburban, Peoria County, Madison County, St. Clair County, and Women’s Bar Associations. His Society membership includes: Advocates, Celtic Legal, Justinian, Decalogue.

Issue Statement

Vote for experience to lead the journey to adapt to AI, using it to provide efficiency in legal practice while warning about its pitfalls; to lead ISBA recruiting young lawyers; to address the needs of women practitioners; and to provide the highest quality of CLE to retain members.
