Edward (Ed) R. McCormick, Jr., 70, of Homewood, died Monday, February 19, 2018. He was born March 15, 1947.

Ed grew up in Chicago and moved to Steger with his parents, the late Edward (Dick) and the late Margaret (Peg) McCormick. He worked on the family chicken farm as a young boy. He graduated from St. Liborius in 1961 and Marian Catholic High School in 1965.

He received an associate degree from Bloom Community College in 1967 and a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University in 1970. After graduating, Ed was a history teacher at St. Mary's grade school in Park Forest.

In 1975, Ed earned his law degree from John Marshall Law School and started his career as an attorney at Hughes & LaForte, Ltd. In 1978, after being named a partner, the law firm became Hughes, LaForte & McCormick, Ltd. In 1982, Ed worked as a partner at McCormick & Zerante, but eventually started his own practice McCormick Law Firm in 2000.

In addition to his private practice, Ed served as the Flossmoor village attorney from 1980 until his passing. Ed was passionate about several things, most notably, the Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department. He was a volunteer fireman from 1985 until 1995, but remained active afterward as a retired member of the department. He also loved playing golf, taking fishing trips with his family and working with tools. Ed had the ability to repair anything.

Ed was the husband of Gayle (32 years); father of Matthew (Angela) and Ryan (Rosanna); grandfather of Logan and Jeremy; brother of Joyce (David) Ludwa, Margaret McCormick, the late Bill (Bonnie) McCormick, Kathy (Tim) Hannon, the late Michael (Suzan) McCormick, Barbara (Paul) McCormick Somerville, Patricia (Dave) Bonadona, and Robert McCormick. He was a beloved uncle and friend to many and he is greatly missed.
