Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Seeks Enforcement Attorney & Technical Advisor 2

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is accepting applications for two positions: Deputy General Counsel Air Enforcement Attorney and Technical Advisor. Both positions are located in Springfield.

Deputy General Counsel Air Enforcement Attorney position:

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (“Illinois EPA”) is seeking a highly qualified individual with a license to practice law in Illinois and a strong background in the Illinois Environmental Protection Act (“Act”) and associated regulations related to Air Pollution Control to serve as Deputy General Counsel under the direction of the Chief Legal Counsel for our office located in Springfield, Illinois. The successful candidate will manage the Illinois EPA’s Division of Legal Counsel’s Bureau of Air Enforcement Unit (“BOA Enforcement Unit”) as it provides legal counsel to the Illinois EPA’s Bureau of Air (“BOA”). This individual will direct attorneys in the BOA Enforcement Unit as they develop and oversee enforcement actions on behalf of BOA and provides legal counsel to BOA on permitting actions and permits.  

Minimum qualifications include at least four years of progressively responsible administrative law experience related to environmental law, regulations, and compliance. This position requires graduation from an accredited law school and possession of a license to practice law in Illinois.

The salary range for the position is $102,000 to $116,000. The application deadline is June 23, 2022.

Technical Advisor 2 position:

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (“Illinois EPA”) is seeking a qualified individual with a license to practice law in Illinois and preferably a background in the Illinois Environmental Protection Act (“Act”). This position drafts regulatory proposals and assists in the preparation of these proposals for the Bureau of Water. In addition, this individual will represent the agency in permit appeals, variances, and adjusted standard matters. This individual will assist in bringing enforcement actions against violators of the Environmental Protection Act (Act) and Rules and Regulations of the Pollution Control Board (PCB). 

Minimum qualifications require graduation from an accredited law school and possession of a license to practice law in Illinois.

The salary range for the position is $63,912 to $95,568. The application deadline is June 29, 2022.
