9th Judicial Circuit Seeks Hancock County Public Defenders

Hancock County, Illinois is accepting applications for the position of Public Defender. All applicants must provide proof of a valid Illinois law license, be in good standing with the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission, and have prior criminal law experience.  

Hancock County is located in West Central Illinois. The County seat is Carthage, Illinois. 

The application is available online at www.9thjudicial.org and should be mailed to the Hancock County Courthouse, Attention: Honorable Judge Rodney G. Clark, 500 Main Street, P.O. Box 2, Carthage, Illinois 62321. In order to be considered for the position, the application must be received by Friday, November 4, 2022. The anticipated start date is December 15, 2022. Hancock County Conflict Public Defender opening
Hancock County, Illinois is accepting applications for the position of Conflict Public Defender. This contract is intended to provide representation to criminal indigent parties that the public defender is unable to represent due to a conflict and general assignment to juvenile abuse, neglect, and delinquency cases. The candidate would also have experience representing parents and minors in juvenile abuse, neglect, and delinquency cases. 

Interested individuals must submit the following: 

  • Letter of Interest: Not exceeding 3 pages, summarizing experience, qualifications, and reasons for applying. Include: legal name, street address, city, state, zip code, daytime phone number, email address, signature.
  • Resume: Current resume, include all positions in the past 5 years.
  • Reference Information: Please provide the name and contact information for three (3) professional references.
  • Insurance Verification: Proof of Professional and Commercial General Liability coverage.

Note: Professional Services Contractors provide occasional and temporary services for Hancock County. Contractors are not considered regular employees of Hancock County and must meet the eligibility requirements as established by the IRS. Contractors are not eligible to receive any employee benefits, must be responsible for their own unreimbursed business/service related expenses, and must be responsible for any profit or loss associated with the service agreement.
