The Illinois State Bar Association will present "Celebrating Women in the Profession: Reach Out and Build Our Future" on Tuesday, March 9, at noon at the Standard Club, 320 S. Plymouth Court in Chicago.
ISBA President John O’Brien will present Presidential Commendation Awards to 2nd District Appellate Justice Susan F. Hutchinson and Cook County Circuit Judge Jane L. Stuart.
Judge Hutchinson received her B.A. in political science from Quincy University in 1971 and her J.D. from DePaul University School of Law in 1977. She served as an Assistant State's Attorney in McHenry County (1977-81) and a Judge in the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit (1981-94). In November 1994, she was elected as a Judge in the Appellate Court, Second District.
Judge Stuart received her B.S. degree in education from Chicago State University in 1970 and her J.D. from John Marshall Law School in 1985. She was the first African-American to be elected as a Student Bar Association Officer. She was an Attorney Examiner at Chicago Title Insurance Co.

Longtime tax attorney Frank Edelman passed away earlier this month at his Gold Coast home on the North Side of Chicago. Mr. Edelman received both his undergraduate and J.D. degrees from Northwestern University. Mr. Edelman balanced work as a real estate tax attorney doing "mitzvahs" -- good deeds. Chief Circuit Judge Stephen J. Culliton is pleased to announce that two finalists for the Office of Associate Judge have been selected and certified by the Illinois Supreme Court. The finalists are seeking to fill the vacancy created by the elevation of Associate Judge Daniel P. Guerin to Circuit Judge. The Circuit Judges will select the appointee by secret ballot. Scott M. Hardek received his J.D. from the Law School at the University of Notre Dame in 1990. He is currently a partner with the law firm of Dykema Gossett in Lisle. Michael A. Wolfe received his J.D. from the John Marshall Law School in 1984. He is currently the Chief of the Criminal Division of the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.
