Nearly two dozen volunteer attorneys helped answer hundreds of phone calls, emails and Skype calls at the 35th Annual Ask A Lawyer Day on Saturday, April 30. Those calls helped members of the public resolve their legal issues or gave them the next steps toward resolving those issues. The endeavor also garnered much positive media coverage throughout Illinois.

On March 31st, ISBA co-sponsored the First Chair Society at SLU Law’s Inaugural Annual Fundraiser at iTap Soulard, the goal of which was the formation of a scholarship fund for first-generation law students at SLU Law. The First Chair Society is a student organization dedicated to creating mentoring, support, and networking opportunities for first-generation law students. About 30 students, friends, family and alumni were in attendance for a fun-filled craft beer and dessert pairing, with available appetizers and a 50/50 raffle. Thanks to our wonderful sponsors, including ISBA, the First Chair Society will be able to give out a substantial scholarship to a SLU Law student next year!
Please join us at the YLD's Annual Bean Bag Tournament on Saturday, April 16 to show off your bean bag tossing skills while supporting the ISBA/YLD Children's Assistance Fund. This fund provides grants to organizations throughout Illinois related to children and law. Over the past sixteen years, the Children's Assistance Fund has distributed nearly $300,000 in grants, due, in large part, to the support and participation in events like the Bean Bag Tournament. We hope you help us continue this tradition of giving by joining us this year at our new location – Joe's Brewery in Champaign!

The event will consist of a reception beginning at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Cheif Justice Rita B. Garman will be the keynote speaker. Judge John Gorman will receive the Joseph R. Bartylak Award and Matthew Hutmacher will receive the President's Award.
