One part of the ISBA Presidential Initiative on Access to Legal Services is opening access to courts through the consistent, continued use of remote appearances. To improve remote proceedings, the ISBA Delivery of Legal Services Committee is conducting a survey on remote proceedings.

The ISBA offices will be closed for Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 23, and Friday, November 24. The offices will resume normal business hours on Monday, November 27, at 8:30 a.m.

At the December 8, 2023, meeting of the ISBA Assembly, two “Under 35” Delegates to the ABA House of Delegates will be elected, one from Cook County and one from the area outside Cook County. The nominees for these positions must be members of the ISBA in good standing from the appropriate area and be under the age of 35 at the time the ABA term commences. The elected delegates will serve for two-year terms commencing June 2024 and will join the ISBA delegation at the ABA annual meeting scheduled for July 31 – August 6 in Chicago.

At its meeting on Friday, October 20, 2023, the ISBA Board of Governors formally adopted the following Resolution, which was originally drafted and adopted by the ISBA International and Immigration Law Section Council:

WHEREAS, the State of Illinois is hosting approximately 3,000 Afghans who have sought refuge in the State since August 2021; and

WHEREAS, as one of the largest state bar associations in the country whose members are representing many of these refugees, it is vital that the ISBA use its voice to urge a positive solution to this situation. For these reasons, the International and Immigration Law Section Council asks the ISBA to adopt the following resolution:
