A Law School Professor,” presented by the Southern Illinois University School of Law. This year's Annual Meeting and CLE Fest are being held at the Hyatt St. Louis at the Arch. He joined the firm after practicing with an area sole practitioner. Mr. Owens received his law degree from Valparaiso University School of Law in 2009. While in law school, Mr. Owens served on the Moot Court Executive Board. Mr. Owens received both an MBA and undergraduate degree in Finance from Western Illinois University. Prior to entering legal practice, Mr. Owens was a financial analyst with Dyson, Inc. Previous to that, he worked on a wide array of business matters including Sarbanes-Oxley compliance with Accenture, LLP. With offices in Valparaiso and Merrillville, the law firm of Hoeppner Wagner & Evans has been rooted in Northwest Indiana for more than 100 years. The firm handles litigation and general business counseling matters, including labor and employment, insurance, real estate, commercial transactions and wealth and estate planning matters.

The Southern Illinois University School of Law will present "Who Me? A Law School Professor" on Thursday, June 24 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Illinois State Bar Association's Annual Meeting in St. Louis. This program will address reasons to become a law professor and explain the hiring process. Southern Illinois University School of Law presents this program to encourage the diversity among law professors. Roger W. Barrett, 94, a partner for many years with Mayer Brown, died earlier this year in Rancho Mirage, Calif., of complications from pneumonia. Mr. Barrett had already started his law carer in Chicago when he joined the Army in 1943. Eventually a captain, he was enlisted for the team led by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson that would prosecute top Nazis in Nuremberg. He was assigned the task of assembling the government's evidence, which included everything from letters and diaries to lampshades made of human skin. He went over some of the evidence with Luftwaffe commander Hermann Goering, who he remembered as highly intelligent, arrogant and amoral. "He said that Goering was completely immoral, there was no sense of right or wrong," said his son, Oliver. Click here to read the full obituary in the Chicago Tribune.
