Mitchell R. Masalski, 78, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and CPD partner.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janett Masalski; their children Emily Masalski (Brian Chojnowski), Matthew Masalski, Loren Masalski, grandchildren Elsa and Jacob, nieces René Romero Schuler, Gina Kerschner, and nephew Jason Dardo. Preceded in death by his mother, Emily, father Matthew, sister Joan, mother-in-law Elsa, nieces Taña and Kristina.
The Honorable Gino L. DiVito passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on April 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A deeply respected leader in Chicago’s legal community for over half a century, he was renowned for his devotion to his family, his sharp intellect, and his unforgettable warmth and humor.

We are heartbroken to share that Warren “Sonny” Lupel passed away peacefully on Monday, February 9, surrounded by family at Northwestern Hospital. A devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, mentor, and friend, he will be missed by many.

Philip Norman Hablutzel was born in Flagstaff, Arizona, on August 23, 1935, and died peacefully in Durham, North Carolina on January 6, 2026, holding the hand of his beloved wife Nancy (née Zimmerman). Between those dates he became an internationally-recognized expert in international finance; co-drafted model and Illinois laws; and helped to found the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and a graduate program in financial services law at the Chicago-Kent College of Law.
David E. Hoy, age 77, passed away on December 18, 2025. Loving husband of 56 years to Lynette J. Hoy; Beloved father to Colleen L. (Nicko) Sahlas; Cherished brother to Donald A. (the late Nancy) Hoy and the late Robert P. A. (Riese) Hoy; Dear uncle, cousin and friend of many.
Raised in a Christian home in Chicago, David accepted Christ as his Savior as a child. His entire life, he was a strong Christian and had an unwavering faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He graduated from Emmaus Bible College (then in Oak Park) where he met the love of his life and wife of 56 years, Lynette.
Matthew Louis Brown, 45, of Sycamore, IL passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 10, 2026, while on an afternoon run with his wife, Amanda, near their home. Matt was born April 12, 1980, in DeKalb, IL, to Charles and Martha Brown. He is survived by his wife of more than 20 years, Amanda Rae, and their two children, Charles Robert (13) and Annette Rae (11); his parents, of DeKalb, IL, and sister Laura Elizabeth, of Barcelona, Spain; his in-laws, Robert and Sharon Fuka, and his sister-in-law, Michelle Schelling (Michael), of Dyer, IN.
On December 12, the Hon. April G. Troemper received the Presidential Commendation from ISBA Immediate Past President Sonni Choi Williams in recognition of her outstanding service on the Standing Committee of Judicial Advisory Polls. Judge Troemper was honored for her leadership of the Committee, including guiding the drafting of revised poll questions that were unanimously approved by the ISBA Board of Governors. She currently serves as the Committee’s Ex-Officio.
Past DuPage County Bar Association President Hon. William J. Bauer has passed away at age 99. He was previously DuPage County States Attorney, Circuit Judge of the 18th Circuit, US Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, Federal District Judge and Judge of the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. In the words of Chief Judge Bonnie Wheaton, "His wit and wisdom will be sorely missed."
