The Illinois Law & Leadership Institute ("ILLI") is a legal immersion program for high school students of diverse backgrounds, with a curriculum that includes fun and educational activities centered on the legal profession. The program, which is a joint venture between the Illinois State Bar Association and Southern Illinois University School of Law, ran from July 26 - August 1 in Carbondale with a combination of classroom lectures, logic and critical thinking exercises, writing and oral advocacy instruction, guest speakers, and field trips to law firms and the U.S.

Hartigan and Immediate Past President Richard D. Felice attended as part of the Illinois delegation headed by Past President Paula H. Holderman. Past Presidents John E. Thies and Joseph G. ISBA President Umberto S. Davi met with a delegation of attorneys from the former Soviet Republic of Kyrgyzstan. The lawyers are part of the a newly formed association of Criminal Defense Attorneys and are visiting the U.S. as part of the ABA's Rule of Law Initiative. -

The Assembly heard an informational report from Paula Littlewood, Executive Director of the Washington State Bar Association and Steve Crossland, Chair of the Washington Supreme Court LLLT Board on the new Limited License Legal Technician Program in that state. -

Umberto S. Davi was sworn-in as the 139th President of the Illinois State Bar Association on Friday, June 19, during the Annual Meeting at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wis.
