Justice Kilbride seeks comment on applicants for 14th Circuit vacancy

Illinois Supreme Court Justice Thomas L. Kilbride is seeking public comment on three attorneys who have applied to fill a resident Circuit Court vacancy in Whiteside County in the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit.

The vacancy will be created upon Circuit Judge John L. Hauptman's retirement, effective December 5, 2016. Under the Illinois Constitution, judicial vacancies are filled by Supreme Court appointment. Justice Kilbride uses an extensive application, evaluation and interview process to make recommendations to the full Court for judicial vacancies in the Third Judicial District.

The three attorneys who have applied to fill the vacancy are Colleen M. Buckwalter of Morrison, Trish A. Joyce of Sterling, and Associate Judge William S. McNeal of Morrison.

Lindsey appointed associate judge in 15th Circuit

Clayton LindseyMichael J. Tardy, Director of the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts, has announced that the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit judges voted to select Clayton L. Lindsey as an associate judge of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit.

Mr. Lindsey received his undergraduate degree in 1981 from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois, and his Juris Doctor in 1984 from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago. Mr. Lindsey is currently affiliated with WilliamsMcCarthy LLP in Oregon, IL.

Hon. Leonard J. Wojtecki 1947-2016

Hon. Leonard J. WojteckiThe Honorable Leonard J. Wojtecki, 69, grew up in Cary, IL., passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016 surrounded by his family at home. He was born July 6, 1947 in Chicago, IL. the son of Leonard and June (Larsen) Wojtecki. He was united in marriage to Frances Robertson on August 23, 1969 in Cary, IL.

Judge Wojtecki graduated from Marquette University in 1969 and went on to earn his law degree from John Marshall Law School, Chicago, IL in 1976. Right out of law school, he joined the Cook County State's Attorney's office as a prosecutor. He then moved to private practice as a trial attorney in Aurora, IL. He also served as an assistant public defender in Kendall County before his appointment as an associate judge in the 16th Judicial Circuit in August 2000 retiring from the bench in July 2015.

Justice Kilbride announces vacancy in 14th Circuit

Illinois Supreme Court Justice Thomas L. Kilbride has announced an application process for appointment to a resident Circuit Court vacancy in Whiteside County in the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit.

The vacancy will be created by Circuit Judge John L. Hauptman's retirement, effective December 5, 2016. Judge Hauptman has been a judge since 1997, and currently serves as the resident judge at the Whiteside County Courthouse in Morrison.

Cornelius, the principal of the Law Offices of Vincent F. Cornelius - with offices in Wheaton and Joliet - concentrates his practice in civil and criminal litigation. A major focus of Cornelius' year as president will be the future of young lawyers and preparing them for the profession.

Beloved husband of Marjorie, née Shapira, for 62 years; devoted father of Ellen (Joel) Feldman and Laurie (Michael Yelnosky) Barron; cherished grandfather of Ilana Beth (fiancé Jeffrey Gross) Feldman, Rebecca Leah Feldman, Samuel Martin Yelnosky and Hannah Ada Yelnosky; dear brother of Barbara (Bernard) Baum; caring son of the late Ada and Irwin Barron; treasured uncle of Mark (Jacque) Leopold, Robert (Wanda) Leopold, Kathy (Stephen) Rosenblat, and Richard (Wendy) Baum.

Karl J. Canavesi Sr. 1931-2016

Karl J. Canavesi Sr.Karl Joseph Canavesi Sr., 84, of Rockford passed away Wednesday, June 29th, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

Karl was born Tuesday, November 27th, 1931, in Rockford to Peter Canavesi and Mary (Logli) Drugger. As a young boy, Karl enjoyed working as a butcher in his grandfather Joe Logli's store. He graduated from West High School in 1950. Karl served in the United States Air Force for four years. He graduated from Rockford College in 1959. After receiving his undergraduate degree, Karl attended law school at the University of Wisconsin and graduated in 1962. He joined the Wisconsin Bar Association August 17th, 1962, and the Illinois State Bar Association April 9th, 1965. Karl continued to practice law as the Assistant City Attorney for Rockford. He formed his own law firm, retiring in 2002.

Rodney Brent Fetterolf 1966-2016

Rodney B. FetterolfRodney Brent Fetterolf, 49, of Dixon, died Saturday, June 4, 2016, at his home. He was the general counsel for American Surveying & Engineering (ASE), a firm with offices in Dixon, Aurora, and Chicago, that performs professional surveying and engineering contracts across the Midwest for large-scale, infrastructural projects. Mr. Fetterolf had a Bachelor of Arts degree in rhetoric from the University of Illinois (Champaign–Urbana), a Juris Doctorate degree from Southern Illinois University School of Law, and he completed additional studies in civil engineering. Brent was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 2000 and returned in 2006 to practice in his hometown of Dixon. He also was a member of Lee County Bar Association and Mensa.

Lawrence Vernon Frye 1920-2016

L. Vernon FryeLawrence Vernon Frye, 95, formerly of Sterling, died Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Brighton Gardens, St. Charles. He was a lawyer in Sterling for many years at Besse, Frye, Arnold and Brooks (later Besse, Frye, Miller and Lancaster).

Vernon was born October 24, 1920 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Clarence and Birdie Xaripha (Ferris) Frye. He was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific Fleet on the U.S.S. Maryland, during WWII. He married Naomi Marie Benters on June 1, 1946 in Sterling. He graduated from Sterling High School, where he was a varsity letter winner in five sports. He matriculated from Northwestern University with a degree from the school of commerce, and received his Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University after the War.
