Continuing Legal Education

ISBA Central Discussions

ISBA Central communities allows section members to pose questions, answer questions, and share information with fellow section members. Members of the section get free access to the section’s community. Joining any section also grants you access to the Transactional and Litigation communities. Legislation

The Section Council reviewed 90 bill that may affect their members’ practice area. Highlights of the most recent legislative session include:

  • Senate Bill 2234 creates the Small Business Financing Transparency Act.
  • Senate Bill 2765, a bill proposed by the ISBA Business & Securities Law Section Council, addresses the fact that Illinois Appellate Courts have reached conflicting decisions about whether the equitable remedy of corporate veil piercing is available regarding Illinois Limited Liability Companies—he Third District has affirmed veil piercing involving an LLC, but the Fourth District has reached the opposition conclusion. Senate Bill 2765 reverts the law back to the status quo prior to the Fourth District’s opinion.
  • Senate Bill 3696 amends the Uniform Commercial Code to, among other things, adopt changes recommended by the Uniform Law Commission with respect to the addition of a Controllable Electronic Records Article.
