Legislation
The Section Council reviewed 4 bills that may affect their members’ practice area. Highlights of the most recent legislative session include:
- Senate Bill 1817 amends Article 3 of the Human Rights Act affecting real estate transactions to include use of a person’s immigration status to trigger the Act unless the inquiry or use complies with State or federal law. It also prohibits a third-party loan modification service provider from using the source of income to discriminate under the Act.
- House Bill 3882 would allow residents of Illinois to obtain a standard driver’s license, rather than the “temporary visitor driver’s license” that is currently allowed under law.
- House Bill 3751 authorizes a person to become a police officer who is legally authorized under federal law to work in the United States and is authorized under federal law to possess a firearm.
