The ISBA Assembly elected four “At Large” delegates to the ABA House of Delegates during their meeting held Dec. 11 during the virtual ISBA Joint Midyear Meeting.
The two delegates from Cook County are Emily Masalski and Joseph Bisceglia. The two delegates from outside Cook County are John Thies and Juan Thomas.

Longtime ISBA member John Phipps was posthumously awarded the ISBA's Medial of Merit—the ISBA's highest honor—during the Assembly meeting on Dec. 11.
The award is reserved for attorneys whose accomplishments are truly exemplary. The medal is awarded to ISBA members who have made a significant contribution to the altruistic goals of the profession or the public.

The ISBA offices will be closed for the holidays from Thursday, December 24 to Sunday, January 3. The offices will reopen on Monday, January 4. During this time, members can expect the following:
- E-Clips will not be delivered for the duration of this period.
- Illinois Lawyer Now will not be delivered on Thursday, December 24.
- The Bar News will not be delivered on Thursday, December 31.
All business and e-newsletter distribution will resume as usual on January 4, 2021.

In an effort to address the ongoing shortage of attorneys practicing in rural Illinois, the ISBA has launched the Rural Practice Fellowship Program.
The aim of the program is to connect rural and small-town law firms looking to hire law clerks and associates with law students and newer attorneys interested in practicing law in rural areas of Illinois.

ISBA President Dennis Orsey will host a Town Hall event at 4 p.m. on Thursday, December 10 to speak about current issues facing the profession and to foster a discussion with members about the pandemic and practice of law.
The Town Hall event, which is part of the Joint Midyear Meeting, will be hosted via Zoom and is open to all ISBA members at no cost.

Every year, the Illinois State Bar Association presents awards to recognize individuals and law firms for their commitment and service to the profession, their communities, and the association. Award recipients are selected through a nomination process, and members are encouraged to nominate persons who meet the criteria for each award. The Illinois State Bar Association’s Board of Governors approved a Professional Conduct Advisory Opinion on October 23 during its regularly scheduled Board meeting.
The opinion addresses how a non-Illinois licensed lawyer can work at an Illinois law firm while applying for admission to the Illinois bar.
