The ISBA takes a group of member and their families to be sworn-in before the U.S. Supreme Court every two years. This year, 48 ISBA members were sworn-in on June 3. The group was able to hear two decisions come down, including the landmark DNA case Maryland v. King and Justice Scalia's scathing dissent.

The Illinois State Bar Association hosted a Bar Leadership Conference for leaders of local and ethnic bar associations affiliated with ISBA from May 3-4 at the Chicago Regional Office.

The Illinois State Bar Association hosted the Lawyers Feeding Illinois awards ceremony on May 8 at the Chicago Regional Office. Attorney General Lisa Madigan was on hand to announce an additional $500,000 for Illinois Food Banks. That brought the total meals raised to over 3.7 million.

The ISBA helped sponsor the CCBA's Annual Law Day program and luncheon at John Marshall Law School on May 1. ISBA President-elect Paula H. Holderman was on hand to hand out prize money to essay winners Karsyn Terry (1st: $250), Iryna Motyashok (2nd: $150) and John Moreno (3rd: $100). The event was co-chaired by ISBA YLD Council member Kenya Jenkins-Wright and David Kadzai

The ISBA Young Lawyers Division hosted the annual Soiree on April 26 at the Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago. Funds raised by the Soiree benefit the YLD Children's Assistance Fund, which provides grants to organizations across the state related to children and law.
