Eviction law has not changed drastically over the years, that is, until the COVID-19 pandemic. Since that time there have been significant, temporary changes in the law as a result of the Illinois and federal eviction moratoriums, Illinois Supreme Court orders, and the passage of new legislation. But as the pandemic wanes, eviction issues, and a lawyer’s need to understand the basics, will remain.

The Illinois Supreme Court has announced the appointment of Tracie R. Porter as an At-Large Cook County Circuit Judge.

Ms. Porter was appointed to fill the At-Large vacancy created by the election of Justice Michael
B. Hyman to the 1st District Appellate Court. The appointment is effective November 12, 2021, and will conclude December 5, 2022, following the November 2022 general election. 

An emerging reality of the #MeToo era is the increased likelihood that you may have a client who will disclose sexual abuse. The Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts (AOIC) Office of Statewide Pretrial Services hosts the 2nd Circuit Stakeholders Meeting on Friday, October 8, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., and also at noon to 1:30 p.m. The 2nd Circuit is made up of Crawford, Edwards, Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jefferson, Lawrence, Richland, Wabash, Wayne, and White Counties.
