    Edelson PC Hosts Educational Seminar on ISBA’s High School Mock Trial Invitational

    Edelson PC hosted an educational seminar for south suburban Cook County high school students Dec. 7 in preparation of the Illinois State Bar Association’s High School Mock Trial Invitational.

    The mock trial invitational program, which is co-administered by the ISBA and the Illinois Trial Team of the University of Illinois, provides an opportunity for students to learn what it is like to prepare and present a legal case before the Illinois courts. Participating students gain a better understanding of the justice system and improve their knowledge, skills, and ability to articulate in a reasoned, thoughtful manner.

    Robert S. O'Shea 1925-2018

    Robert S. O'Shea, 93, of Springfield, died Nov. 18 surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Springfield on April 9, 1925, the son of Ralph and Glenn Rose O'Shea.

    He attended Cathedral Boys and Springfield High Schools and earned bachelor’s and law degrees at Indiana University. He was awarded four bronze battle stars for service in World War II. He landed on Utah Beach in Normandy and fought in the Battle of the Bulge as a rifleman with the 825th Tank Destroyer Battalion.

    ISBA Past President Vincent Cornelius Sworn in as Will County Circuit Court Judge

    Joliet attorney Vincent F. Cornelius was sworn in today as circuit judge for the Twelfth Judicial Circuit Court of Will County. 

    The ceremony took place in the Joliet City Council Chamber, 150 W. Jefferson St., in Joliet. 

    Cornelius is the founder and principal attorney of the Law Offices of Vincent F. Cornelius in Joliet and Wheaton. He has tried hundreds of cases during his career as a prosecutor, criminal defense attorney, and civil litigator.

    ISBA Receives Illinois Women’s Institute for Leadership Training Academy’s Trailblazers Award

    The Illinois State Bar Association was among several groups that recently received the Illinois Women’s Institute for Leadership Training Academy’s Trailblazers Award.

    The recipients of this year’s awards were organizations that helped pass the Equal Rights Amendment to the United States Constitution in Illinois. The amendment, which outlaws discrimination based on gender nationwide, was ratified in May.

    Rody P. Biggert 1936-2018

    Rody Patterson Biggert, a longtime resident of Hinsdale, died Nov. 15, 2018. He was 82 years old.

    His parents and two sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by his beautiful family consisting of his wife of fifty-five years, Judith (Judy) Borg Biggert; daughter Courtney Caverly (Marty) of Pacific Palisades, California, daughter Alison Cabot (Chris) of London, England, son Rody of New York, New York, and daughter Adrienne Morrell (Jarrett) of Bethesda, Maryland; his nine grandchildren, Martin "Bray," Gillian, and Grant Caverly, John Henry, Matthew and Ethan Cabot and Greer, Charlotte and William "Anders" Morrell. His wonderful family provided unending love and support to Rody during his battle with leukemia.

    Famous Abraham Lincoln Portrait Unveiled at Daley Center in Chicago

    A high-quality reproduction of a famous Abraham Lincoln photograph was unveiled Tuesday at the Daley Center in honor of the state’s bicentennial.

    ISBA President James F. McCluskey participated in the ceremony, which was presided over by Cook County Circuit Court Chief Judge Timothy Evans. The ceremony was part of a statewide initiative to place framed photographs of the 16th U.S. president in courthouses in each of Illinois' 102 counties.

    Clark Hill Adds Political Law Attorney John G. Fogarty, Jr., to Firm

    Clark Hill PLC today announced the addition of John G. Fogarty, Jr. to the firm as Senior Counsel in its Chicago office, where he is a member of the Government and Public Affairs Practice Group.

    He joins the firm from his private practice. A graduate of Northwestern University and Chicago Kent College of Law, Fogarty represents candidates, office holders, political committees, individuals, corporations, and nonprofits in all aspects of the electoral and legislative processes, including ballot access, campaign finance and disclosure, lobbying and government affairs, media issues and party governance.

    Lavelle Law Group Adds New Attorney

    Schaumburg-based Lavelle Law has welcomed attorney Matthew Case to the firm. The firm is now home to 29 attorneys.

    Case joins Lavelle Law’s taxation, estate planning and administration, and business practice groups after serving as a law clerk with the firm. A graduate of the University of Michigan and Loyola University Chicago School of Law, Case is excited to start serving the community he’s been working with for the past year and a half.

    The Illinois State Bar Association honored the Class of 1968 Distinguished Counsellors on Nov. 15 at the Union League Club in Chicago. The title is conferred annually upon ISBA members who are completing their 50th year of practice.
